A few feet away from the metal fencing surrounding Dilley ICE Detention Center are several stuffed teddy bears and books, everything one would need for story time. Only this story time is symbolic, and a call to action for the children just a few yards away being held in the Texas detention center.
What is being done to kids at the Dilley Detention Center and in other detention centers across this country is not only wrong, but it is immoral. Join the #ReadThemHome initiative, record yourself reading a children’s book, and post it online to raise awareness. Visit readthemhome.org for more.

“What we're trying to do is help focus not only the mind, but the hearts. If Americans can't remember that children do not deserve to be incarcerated and tortured, then our democracy is already lost,” says Stacey Abrams on raising awareness of the ICE facility detaining children in Dilley, Texas.
The Trump Administration is continuing to terrorize our communities and kidnap children who’ve only ever known the United States.
It’s heartening to see Rep. Castro and other House Dems keep the pressure on. We must bring all these kids back home, to their friends and to their books.

A msg from @elenahung.bsky.social — who is outside the Dilley Detention Center as part of #ReadThemHome
The trauma children in detention carry doesn't disappear when the cell door opens. The anxiety, regression, loss of language — that damage is real and it is lasting.
END FAMILY DETENTION!
Kids should be kids.💔 That's why SEIUTX Sec-Treas Cathy Martinez & @seiuhcmnia.bsky.social member Carmen Phillips are with @staceyabrams.com today for a 12-hr vigil & children's book reading outside the Dilley detention center where children are being held indefinitely.

A woman wearing a blue Little Lobbyists t-shirt reads aloud from a book in front of a branded step-and-repeat backdrop featuring the Little Lobbyists logo. A large teddy bear wearing a "Read Them Home" vest sits behind her. A sign reading "End Family Detention" is visible on a bookshelf to her left. A sign language interpreter appears in a small inset window in the upper right corner. Captions at the bottom read: "to the bakers. She bought a loaf of brown bed and five"

13 people have died in ICE custody in just the first 3 months of this year. These are human beings. Family members. Workers.
They want us to scroll past this suffering like it is normal. I refuse to let this kind of cruelty become background noise.

Step Three in KF Senior Fellow @staceyabrams.com’s 10 Steps to Freedom and Power is a reminder that organizing doesn’t have to start big.
Ensuring an open and honest government can begin with a small circle of people who trust one another, share what they know, and decide to act together.
