Trying to learn hand finishing techniques makes me realize why watchmakers are freaking out. There's no way to learn this stuff without experience and it's in danger of being lost without new people to carry the skills forward

polished up a bevel to 3k grit and it looks fantastic. Still not happy with the sunrays but the next ones will be better and taking solace in how good the bevel looks

Watch mainplate with hand-cut sunrays over the barrel. The sunrays are not straight unfortunately

Not super happy with how uneven these sunrays are, but gotta start somewhere! Next time i might lay them out better then do most of the finishing with a file instead of a saw

knocked the spike off the top plate at 9:00 in this picture, looks much better all rounded like the rest of the plate. Drilled the holes for the sunray openworking over the barrel on the mainplate, going to take a break and open those up tomorrow, but this is coming along swiftly

they've settled into a more baroque death-metal thing lately and i really like it. The early experimental days made some great tunes, but you never knew what it was going to be besides "weird"
