It's the classic Mel Gibson and Jesus meme where Mel is on set in normal clothes casually chatting to a very bloody Jesus (for those of you who don't know it).

Britain’s food supply ‘at risk of catastrophic failure by 2030’ A report written before the 2024 election says climate change, habitat loss and geopolitical instability are a danger to food security — and it has been ignored

Hard to know which is more shocking - the dire warnings of the potential collapse of our food system in the UK or the fact that governments have tried to cover it up. Their complacency is off the scale. We urgently need to switch to growing more food domestically & to restore nature now

'Nobody with a brain goes to X seeking facts. X is for spreading disinformation' The Greens want to make social media platforms subject to laws of defamation and libel just like publishers, newspapers and broadcasters. About…

The Greens plan to put social media giants like X and Facebook on the same legal footing as all other publishers in order to regulate them using defamation laws.

This is an important step forward. Everyone should back the move - even opponents of the Greens

I recommend subscribing to Byline Times. It might not be a cheerful read, but it's refreshing to read truth and see intelligent, diligent journalism.

Proposed law change will protect abusive men who push women to suicide, campaigners warn Charity criticises new measures that would make it harder for inquests to pass verdict of unlawful killing

"Ministers want to make it harder for inquests to pass verdicts of unlawful killing, which have been crucial in getting justice for women who committed suicide after suffering abuse."

I don't think anyone expected Labour would change course after its electoral drubbing but this is 🤯

I was in a 2 hour briefing today on the Iran War. All the briefings are closed, because Trump can't defend this war in public.

I obviously can't disclose classified info, but you deserve to know how incoherent and incomplete these war plans are.

Why government should introduce an annual Migration Plan | Institute for Government An annual Migration Plan would allow the government to move on from the incoherent way immigration policy has been made in the past.

Its a political choice to want to keep net migration down (then readjust the borrowing, tax, spending numbers) or whether to want net migration to drift up (then readjust some of the Home Office policy drive to reduce/eliminate it). Can't do both.

Turns out lowering bills, protecting the NHS and rebuilding our public services is really popular.

This is just the beginning - people are seeing through the attacks and demanding something better.

And we're making hope normal again - together.

It would mean the lobbying by big US tech firms had succeeded, and the protests of the UK's creatives had been ignored.

People's work is not the government's to give away.

If you're in the UK and you care about creatives and the creative industries, please write to your MP!

In the House of Lords today, a government minister refused to rule this out.

To be clear, this would amount to legalising theft. It would fly in the face of public opinion on what is fair, and would mean a surrender of British creatives' work by this Labour government.

🚨 It looks like the UK government is gearing up to upend copyright law in favour of AI companies, legalising the theft of their work.

This is despite creatives' huge protests, and despite previous proposals being roundly rejected by the public.

Please spread the word.

this reminds me of when a v established right wing journalist was convinced he was reading an obscene tweet from Corbyn and I had to gently and repeatedly explain that it wasn’t actually from Corbyn and you could tell because the account had 45 followers and it said “parody” in the bio

Can we extract the Reform nonsense from Labour? These immigration proposals are obscene, but the government can be forced to think again.

The government's immigration proposals are an obscenity: They needlessly punish refugees, make integration basically impossible, and introduce a sliding system of administrative abuse depending on how wealthy you are iandunt.substack.com/p/can-we-ext...

Major new poll puts Scottish Greens on course to overtake Labour at Holyrood THE Scottish Greens will overtake Labour at the next Holyrood election, a major new poll has predicted.

Good. Now let's get them ahead of Farage's Reform UK and we can have a Scottish party 1-2 with the London parties relegated into third and beyond.

Blue Labour as a concept needs to go in the bin, alongside the idea of Lexit. Cut the twin cancers out.

Brexit should go on the scrap heap of history.

FPTP has had its day too.

Roll on PR, and a full-throated and unashamed campaign to negotiate with the EU to rejoin ASAP.

Just for context, the extremism Starmer talks about was the accepted political narrative and policy when I was growing up, living under post Keynesian Governments of both Labour and Tory. It’s only extreme if you like sucking up to neoliberal, fetishist billionaires.
