UK looks to relax planning rules for factory farms after industry lobbying Exclusive: documents chronicle years-long campaign to make it easier to build intensive livestock units

Just what we don't need. Already, our rivers are overloaded with both human and livestock waste, leading in many cases to #rivercide. Now the government, responding as always to lobbyists, wants to make it worse. Then it wonders why it loses public support. www.theguardian.com/environment/...

Or they could have just let this beautiful fish live.

Ice fishing has always struck me as so cruel. The fishes don’t even get one season where they aren’t being terrorized by trophy hunting (which is what this is).

‘Millions wasted killing healthy B.C. ostriches:’ Animal Justice - Chilliwack Progress Agency says taxpayers’ money wasted, could have been used to fund disease prevention, support animal sanctuaries

“Millions of taxpayers’ dollars were poured down the drain, wasted to massacre these sensitive, intelligent animals who, by that point, were entirely healthy." — @camillelabchuk.bsky.social, executive director of Animal Justice

Q-716 (45-1) - Written Questions - House of Commons of Canada

Today we learned the feds spent $6.8M to kill the ostriches. This includes $2.3M in staff time & $1.3M to lawyers. To kill HEALTHY birds.

Imagine how many animals could have been helped if the feds simply gave this cash to farmed animal sanctuaries.

Deer shot dead by arrow in Toronto cemetery | CBC News Ontario’s Ministry of Natural Resources is seeking the public’s help to track down the person who killed a deer in a Toronto cemetery.

Some jerk shot a deer with an arrow in Toronto.

Fishing is the largest massacre of wildlife anywhere on our planet, and fishing gear is the largest contributor to plastic pollution in the oceans. Meanwhile fish farms are horribly cruel and polluting.

No one should be eating more fishes.

Thank you so much for your advocacy. It's really frustrating to get so little response. Our legislators need to do better!

I was up early to join David Common on CBC's Metro Morning! We talked about Ontario's move to ban cosmetic surgeries on pets like cat declawing, ear cropping, and debarking. Good news, but slicing off dogs' tails should also be banned.

It is such a puzzle that many politicians are so slow to take up better legal protections for animals. Polls consistently show that the public demands better than unregulated factory farms, shoddy roadside zoos, and brutal experiments on animals!

I'm grateful to @lindamcquaig.bsky.social for reminding us of the animals that many forget. Factory farms are almost completely unregulated in Canada and are free to abuse animals in horrible ways. In 2026, let's change this.

Animal lawyers call on Ontario to protect Marineland’s belugas The PAWS Act gives the provincial government power to intervene and ensure the 30 captive whales aren’t euthanized

“The province has very extensive authority under the PAWS Act to go in & care for the whales in the short term & protect them from being euthanized by Marineland.”

Marine park threatens to euthanize 30 whales if Canada does not provide funding Marineland’s warning comes after Canadian official blocked the transfer of the beluga whales to a theme park in China

After decades of profiting from cruelty, Marineland is threatening to kill its 30 remaining whales 💔 It's time for Ontario to step in to protect the whales & send Marineland the bill!

@camillelabchuk.bsky.social: “Marineland has a moral obligation to fund the future care of these animals.” ⬇️

Closing St. Joseph’s dog lab is a victory — but it’s just the beginning Ontario must pass new laws, and the federal government should fund the alternatives we need. It’s time for Canada to join the growing list of countries moving beyond animal experiments altogether.

NEW op-ed from our ED @camillelabchuk.bsky.social: St. Joseph’s Hospital is ending dog experiments after our exposé. Premier Doug Ford has promised new laws to ban dog & cat experiments—but we also need federal leadership & funding for #CrueltyFree alternatives.

Horse euthanized following Saturday chuckwagon races at Calgary Stampede An injured horse was euthanized following the chuckwagon races Saturday night at the Calgary Stampede.

“It is 2025, but these completely preventable killings continue to happen. It’s absurd that Stampede organizers permit this brutal spectacle to continue where horses are doomed to die nearly every year.” — @camillelabchuk.bsky.social, ED at Animal Justice

End Times at Ontario’s Roadside Zoos? | The Local Ontario’s lax regulations have made the province the “wild west” for exotic animals. But as public concern over animal welfare grows, some zoos are buckling under the pressure.

In Ontario, you don't even need a license to operate a zoo🤯

“If I wanted to open up a zoo in my backyard, fill it with dangerous, exotic animals who don’t do well in captivity… I would be perfectly able to do that." — @camillelabchuk.bsky.social, Animal Justice ED

No one has done more to harm the legal interests of animals than Senator Plett. He relentlessly opposed every single bill to make life slightly better for animals who are miserably suffering in captivity or being slaughtered. Today is a happy day for animals & I look forward to progress soon!

Today Sen. Don Plett turns 75 & retires—ending a decade of Senate obstruction for animal bills.

He nearly killed Canada's whale & dolphin captivity ban. He DID kill the live horse export ban by running out the clock. Same for ape/elephant captivity.

An Ontario farmer reported 45,000 baby chicks stolen two years ago. Now police have charged him with fraud and mischief Police said they don’t know where the chicks are but believe they were “disposed of.”

An Ontario farmer lied about 45,000 stolen chicks, raising disturbing questions about what really happened to them 💔

“You can’t easily kill that many chickens, & you can’t do it humanely en mass like that.” - @camillelabchuk.bsky.social, executive director of Animal Justice.
