We dug into staggering, newly released EPA data on power plant pollution and found that the agency tried to hide it—and then completely removed it from their website. 👇🧵

In January, Congress voted to reduce the EPA’s budget in fiscal year 2026 by 4% ($325 million). Now the Trump Administration is proposing to reduce the EPA’s budget for fiscal year 2027 (Oct. 1, 2026–Sept. 30, 2027) to $4.2 billion, a 52% cut. news.bloomberglaw.com/health-law-a...
💯 "I’m annoyed that individualism has become the only path toward personal and environmental safety. I’m annoyed that the government has effectively outsourced its responsibility to protect public health, biodiversity & climate onto individuals."

Trump’s EPA is working to roll back Biden-era rules to protect workers, first responders and communities from chemical explosions and other accidental releases—just as climate change is making them more likely.
In contrast to the plastic visage of Kristi Noem, you probably can’t picture Zeldin’s forgettable face. It’s also hard to recall any memorable utterances from him.
But the EPA administrator’s blandness has provided cover for the most destructive reign since the agency’s creation. trib.al/GMfq5cR
@beyondpesticides.org and allies call on #Congress to #reject the #FarmBill out of the House Ag Committee and instead pass a one-year extension of current law in response to #poisonpills that seriously undermine protections of #health and the #environment from #pesticides. ➡️ Blog: ow.ly/VhgW50YIlO8
"Regenerative agriculture" is the new green buzzword — and corporations are running with it. No universal definition, no metrics, no accountability
The irony? There's already a rigorous, verified standard covering most of these principles: organic.

New policy papers call for an urgent transformation of our approach to hazardous chemicals.
We need swift action to restrict toxics using the data we ALREADY have, BEFORE people are harmed.

“This is just the latest example of how this administration will do whatever it can to put industry profit over the health and safety of workers, first responders and communities that allow those companies to exist in the first place,” said Rep. Paul Tonko.

Many scientists are now convinced that there is no longer room for doubt about the carcinogenicity of glyphosate.
“It’s clear the evidence has changed and become stronger since 2015,” said @emoryrollins.bsky.social scientist Christopher Portier.

Recently, a severe heat wave swept the western U.S., pushing temperatures 20–30°F above normal and breaking records across multiple states. The World Weather Attribution research group said the severity of the heat wave would be, "Virtually impossible without climate change."

Real environmental justice is rooted in community, accountability, and action.
I'm launching the People's Environmental Justice Caucus alongside my colleagues and leaders who have shaped this movement to build federal policy that puts the people first. (1/2)

"If a safer alternative was put on the table and the company declined to implement it- people have a right to know." Phillip Stagg, @uswmetallos.bsky.social "My child goes to school 2000 ft from my site."
"Chemical harm results from specific actions and choices. We will continue to show up to protect our shared home. These rollbacks are not common sense - the are an irrational concession to a chemical industry that values profit over human lives."
Community leaders step into provide care and support. We remember Ms. Williams, and all the beautiful people back home who have passed away. EPA can ensure a safer outcome for our communities but choses to roll back protections.
Eliminating requirements for hazardous facilities to plan for natural hazards is not common sense. When FEMA aid is delayed and not available, we are filling the gaps ourselves.
The @tejasbarrios.bsky.social office where I work in Harris County is located within the worst case disaster zone of 9 RMP facilities.
Texas has more annual chemical disasters than any other state, and has the most RMP facilities with repeated incidents in the last 5 years. But this is not just a Texas problem.

"Today I'm not alone I carry with me my family, mentors and ancestors. EPA's proposal erodes the work done by previous generations. We are united as we face another moment when protections from our communities are taken away" Nalleli Hidalgo
@tejasbarrios.bsky.social
"We're the ones who run these units, who carry the risk on our backs every day and EPA's proposal takes away tools to prevent disasters, and sends the message that worker safety is optional. OUR SAFETY IS NOT OPTIONAL - we will not stand by while protections are stripped away."
"Hurricanes, wildfires, floods and extreme heat are becoming more intense - we've seen entire communities evacuated because a plant wasn't ready. Removing the requirement for natural hazard assessment is not common sense - it's wishful thinking."
"Workers shouldn't have to beg their employers to consider safer alternatives- that should be the baseline expectation."
"For those who don't live this job every day let me explain - stop work authority saves lives. When something goes wrong, workers need to stop the job immediately. Taking away stop work authority tells us that production matters more than people. " Dawn Anderoli @uswmetallos.bsky.social
"I represent an area with the highest concentration of hazardous material sites on the West coast. There are 5 refineries in this area. "I've been to funerals of building trades workers in my district." East Bay Rep. Mark DeSaulnier.
The broader public will be paying for this proposal" with unclean air and water, the health impacts of chemical disasters, while industry pays less.
