I am currently attending the last Ebert fest in Champaign, Illinois. My tenure as editor & critic began here in 2013 a couple weeks after Roger passed and Chaz hired me. I feel like those two experiences were bookends. What an amazing family. What a valuable event. I hope it continues in some form.

just heard about a showrunner who offhandedly told his writers he runs their outlines through chatgpt and they all flipped out

It looks like Minion will need surgery. Until I have the consult with the surgeon I won't know how much this is going to cost, but it might be very expensive. Please consider sharing any help you can, or retweeting this message. Thank you so much.

Noah Wyle as Dr. Robby, peaking his head into an examination room, on "The Pitt."
"The Pitt" vs. its fandom: Why is the show's vocal fandom putting "The Pitt's" characters on trial to be deemed “good” or “bad"?

to me the pitt is a love letter to new york city – a town it lovingly accepts, warts and all. in a sense, new york is almost the show's main character

My faves: ep #8, about boy who "went to heaven and came back” and ep #10, a wild tangent into a whole other TV show.
Great characters, smart satire, and rapid-fire jokes. Don’t miss it!
they didn’t die for this
FYI, this gallery has all the photos NASA is sharing from Artemis II in one place, with descriptions.
If you aren't in love with Swanboy yet...it's kind of like if Achewood in its prime had the icky visual flair of Ralph Steadman and was overflowing with surreal wordplaying one-liners in a trash-magical-realism cartoon universe like if George Herriman was a punk who lived in a dumpster. Good stuff!
Oh, believe it. They’re the ones who put us in this mess.
As Killers of the Flower Moon enters the Criterion Collection, I had another wonderful conversation with Lily Gladstone, this time about the film, compartmentalizing joy with tragedy and cinema as oral tradition. One of my favorite people to talk to:

Subscriptions at my site have been extremely slow-going (I get more every week at my shut down Substack site - sigh). So I just wanted to share this again - both free & paid subs are deeply appreciated & help support my writing in so many ways. Plus, signing up is easy! Cheers! 🖤
Reposting this because I revamped my site and the link changed. Added the script for Wake Up Dead Man to my site. This is the final shooting script, it has stuff that was cut and moved around, which I think is more interesting than a conformed cleaned up version. Enjoy! rian-johnson.com/scripts
Doing good!

Matt Walsh I would kill every ape in the world to save one human, because humans are more important. This is a very simple concept, folks. @kthorjensen Replying to @MattWalshBlog would you suck every ape’s dick to save one human
Nerd culture is funny because it fooled an entire generation into thinking that if you liked sci-fi and disliked sports, that somehow made you smart.

The feel good movie of the year (so far). Gosling is tremendous. Rocky, adorable. And the feels, abundant.
Go see it on the biggest screen you can.
the Dune franchise dares to ask "would you still worship me if I was a worm?"
No, in Hollywood you need execs that haven't seen the original to be successful
