I came to Minneapolis to report on what's going on, and one of the main questions I showed up with is "just what is the scale of the resistance?" After all, we're all used to the news calling Portland a "war zone" or whatever when it's just some protests in one part of town.

Live Updates: Newly Released Records Detail Chaos During Fatal ICE Shooting in Minneapolis

Holy shit.

Renee Good was alive when the bystander physician asked to check her pulse. She was alive when ICE refused to let him help. She was alive when they told him “I don’t care.”

Medical examiner believes death of man in ICE custody was homicide, recording says A fellow detainee says he witnessed Geraldo Lunas Campos being choked to death by guards at the ICE detention center in Texas on Jan. 3.

It was never hyperbole that many people would not survive this administration.

I just gave to Juntos! Show your support with a contribution.

Philly! The extra fuckery fucking with you? Despite the overwhelmedness, despite the involuntary accelerationistism of it all, there are so many things we can do to push back.

One quick action is to donate to Juntos. I know this team, I know how hard they work.

The Toni Cade Bambara documentary was powerful.

I also managed to catch tonight’s screening of All That’s Left of You—heartbreaking and I highly recommend.

BlackStar film festival is a Philly gem.

But a big protest like this is primarily a show of strength and opposition. It exists to be a symbol. That's often more than enough.

As I said earlier, the mere image of the contrast between Trump's limp parade and these No Kings protests is propaganda you couldn't buy for a million bucks.

news story about how the MN shooter and wife operate a private armed security company.

THREAD: The assassinations in Minnesota highlight a dirty secret hardly ever mentioned in the news: U.S. has 1.1 million private police officers. There is an unprecedented footprint of privately organized violence that is doing all sorts of things most people have no idea about.

Bibi’s govt was about to be dissolved. This is about his career, and dragging the US into another war to prolong the genocide in Gaza. But even if it were actually about a nuclear program: Israel—a pariah state—has 90 nuclear warheads!

Grant Park in downtown Los Angeles, full of union members peacefully singing and talking and carrying their signs.

For those who live elsewhere, this is the heart of downtown #LosAngeles. My friends are here. My union is here (sup @wgawest.bsky.social). My teenager is here. People are passing out pastries & singing & praying. All we want is for our neighbors not to be kidnapped off the streets.

Starved in Jail Why are incarcerated people dying from lack of food or water, even as private companies are paid millions for their care?

The New Yorker has an investigative piece about people dying of malnutrition and dehydration in jails.

I appreciate the author for not sugarcoating it: "hard to describe as anything other than a pattern of widespread torture of people with mental-health issues" www.newyorker.com/magazine/202...

Students support our contract campaign! 🥰
They know our fight is their fight. They know Community College of Philadelphia is the ❤️ of Philly and should be fully funded and that their faculty and staff don’t the deserve the disrespect CCP’s board has shown—nor to have our workers’ rights taken away.

Earlier this evening, we announced a strike deadline.
Management has until 7am Wednesday.
Our members are TIRED OF THE DISRESPECT. After almost 15 months of bargaining, hundreds of hours at the table and testimony after testimony, management can’t say they don’t know what members and students need.

Bargaining Update:

Management nickels and dimes us—

without the dime!

Seriously— they moved 5 cents

for 15 people 😖

Can’t help but wonder how much cheaper it’d be to respect our members.

They paid more to their overpaid anti-worker lawyers to type it than the “increase” will cost.

Going on strike is the most selfless action any worker can take. @fsfccp.bsky.social's demands aren't just reasonable - they are NECESSARY to ensure the long-term health and vitality of CCP as an institution of learning.

If the Board doesn't get it now, they're about to hear it loud & clear 🔊🔊🔊

Philadelphia Community College Employees Authorize Strike Employees at the Community College of Philadelphia overwhelmingly voted to allow a strike if contract negotiations with administrators continue to go sour.

In this @CCPedu admits their request for “fact finding” is a blatant attempt to undermine workers’ rights that parallels the attacks on labor we are seeing nationally.

After over a year and 100 + hours of negotiations, after working without a contract since Aug, we’re ready to strike, if necessary.

Tonight we launch a strike authorization vote. We can’t afford to wait any longer for management to do right by our members and our students.
