The repair cafe in Marple is such an excellent local project, and I took the time to come and support the national initiative at the Parliamentary Repair Cafe when they visited Westminster recently. #LisaSmartMP #HazelGrove #Westminster #Parliament #ReduceReuseRecycle

The Government's approach to funding local government is not working for Stockport – they are leaving us millions of pounds behind equivalent local authorities across the country, putting vital services at risk. #LisaSmartMP #Stockport #LocalGovernment #Funding

Did you know that you may be entitled to compensation if your business is affected by roadworks caused by gas or water companies, but not by electricity or telecoms. I keep raising this discrepancy with the Government. It simply doesn't make sense. #LisaSmartMP #HazelGrove

The "Golden Hello" scheme was supposed to deliver new NHS dentists to areas struggling to get them. It has not worked. The Government is just not delivering the practical measures needed to address this. #LisaSmartMP #NHS #Dentists #Health

Thanks to Jack and Jade who took me out to see what life as an emergency paramedic team is about. They were excellent, although it brought home what support is needed to stop NHS staff from being restricted by the conditions in which they sometimes work. #LisaSmartMP #NHS #SteppingHill #Health

Lisa Smart MP asks a question in Parliament
The Gov't changed the process for issuing death certificates last year, to ensure that there was more oversight, but which has considerably lengthened the time taken to get certificates issued. I pressed the Government for more information on what the changes have meant in practice.

Misinformation online is a problem for everyone. Freedom of speech is not the same as freedom from responsibility. Getting that balance right is tricky, but more needs to be done.

🚨"This Bill... does not stand up to the moment of crisis and the moment of peril that our democracy faces."
📣 On the Representation of the People Bill Committee, our Vice-Chair @lisasmartmp.bsky.social raised the need for a National Commission on Electoral Reform:
My constituent Steve recently told me the the number of that 40% of people going through the family court system have suicidal thoughts. I raised this with the Minister, and have included her response. The Samaritans are at www.samaritans.org or by call 116 123, and other support is available.
Lisa Smart MP with speakers at "The current electoral system is broken. Why the Government must take action" event.
Lisa Smart MP speaking at the event
As well as the debate in parliament on Monday for by-elections, I spoke at the Lib Dem fringe event at our Conference on electoral reform. While it may not be everyone's cup of tea, it would be the most fundamental change to our politics, and help engage people with our democracy. #ElectoralReform
I spoke in the debate following a petition about forcing MPs who change party to face a by-election. This doesn't address the real problem in our democracy: people are fighting the first-past-the-post system. We need real, fundamental change.
