Boise foothills are amazing right now

What Don has done in local news in Boise is just remarkable. Through our conversations, I know he does it because he genuinely cares about the community. And that’s the special sauce of BoiseDev.
I’m proud to have been one of the early subscribers. If you care about Boise, you should subscribe.
Some great news out of the Idaho legislature (you can’t say that every day):

This will allow more homes to be built, especially small ones that are less expensive. I hope the bills pass.
The Ram had one that was pretty good, not sure if they still do.
Exciting new bike lane obstruction just dropped.
Conservatives should embrace liberals taking a conservative position, and not run away from it.
Sidewalks and bikes laws are pro family and community, pro wealth, anti government regulation and anti government spending.
Conservatives have been today psyched out by liberals wanting bike lanes and sidewalks. Not getting around by car is inherently conservative and traditional. It’s far less expensive and requires far less government expenditure and regulation.

Amen, and thank you.
"These changes have helped Paris double its modal share for bikes, which has risen from 5% of all journeys in 2020 to over 11% in 2025... the shift is highly noticeable in central Paris, where 3.5 million bikes were recorded as passing along one main avenue, the Boulevard de Sebastopol, in 2025."
“It’s not my duty as Mayor to make sure you have a parking spot. It’s the same as if you bought a cow, or a refrigerator, and then ask me where you’re going to put them.“ — Miguel Anxo Fernandez Lores, mayor of Ponte Vedra, Spain. Graphic by the Urban Truth Collective.
Don’t buy a cow, or a car, and expect your city to give you someplace to park it. #UrbanTruth
Austin’s surge of new housing supply drove down housing prices across the board, with the largest benefit going to renters in the lowest cost buildings: “Rents declined about 11% in older non-luxury buildings that cater to lower-income renters, known as Class C buildings.”
If this happens, Boise should seriously look at pulling out of ACHD and managing their own streets. Their transportation agenda for their own city would likely be killed. boisedev.com/news/2026/03...
It’s fascinating to see your city through someone else’s eyes. And be reminded that we have it pretty good here. m.youtube.com/watch?v=Buo9...
Don’t like high gas prices? Get an e-bike, and leave your car parked. I’ve almost entirely replaced my car for city driving in Boise, and now use it almost exclusively for road trips. Good for you, good for your wallet, good for the planet. Stop driving, it’s honestly not that hard.
In the words of the WSJ - who do people think live in these rental homes, hedge fund managers? This could cause massive displacement of renters www.wsj.com/economy/hous...
"Government should run like a business"...unless it means they'll lose their taxpayer subsidy, of course.
Not a single word in this story about increased parking rates downtown about how you actually solve that: get better transit into downtown so you don't have to drive there all the time. boisedev.com/news/2026/03...
Sub optimal hazards on the Greenbelt in Garden City.
Correct, built before parking requirements. And that’s true about transit back then, but it still functions just fine today with reduced transit. It’s in a very walkable location and near current transit stops.
This small apartment built in downtown Boise has zero (0) off-street parking spaces
Uggghhhhhh

Yesterday the Washington Post rid itself of Publisher and Chief Executive Will Lewis. If you're interested in those events and their tumultuous background, I would recommend this detailed account from NPR's @davidfolkenflik.bsky.social

“In other words, the true benefit of [road widening] is that it enables more driving, not that it eases congestion.”
100% true. Getting around by bike is a life hack in so many ways.
Hurts my lower back just watching that
It’s not Christmas if the boy’s new drone doesn’t get stuck in grandma’s hair.
My holiday card pet peeve is people including wide angle photos of themselves in tiny little postage stamp images on a card so you can hardly see anything at all in the photo. Thank you for coming to my TED talk.
