Probably better to assume whether the Strait of Hormuz is perceived as open or closed is randomised based on whether the voter looked at the news in the last 30mins.

Also important to remember the last time Pakistan “asked” it appeared to do so by copy-pasting a US written statement.

Speaker of the House, the Right Honourable Foghorn Leghorn MP in the House of Commons, speaking.

Speaker of the House, the Right Honourable Foghorn Leghorn MP in the House of Commons, speaking.

All I'm saying is, Parliament would be much more watchable if the Speaker of the House was an AI hologram of Foghorn Leghorn.

"I said, I said, let the Right Honourable boy finish this here statement to the House!"

Makes you think.

Me in the Avengers: going up to Thanos with my PowerPoint slides on why the Malthusian assumptions in Paul Ehrlich's The Population Bomb were wrong, Norman Borlaug's work, the Green Revolution, and why China's one-child policy was ultimately a net negative.

Thanos: oh good, never mind then. Bye.

It was a pretty outlandish decision, but I could honestly forgive it if they took that seriously and did something with it acknowledging what a disaster it still was. Instead we got Falcon and the Winter Soldier’s vague stab at that then nothing else.

Often the case with weak entries in any series I think. It takes your brain a second to catch up. Also happens the other way round. I was like half way through S1 of Andor - which I watched under protest - before my brain went “wait what? This is actually really good.”

There’s a lot too that but it’s also dependent on your ability to yeet things from the cannon in your mind. Example: Rhodey at Tony Stark’s funeral was not an alien imposter. That simply did not happen no matter what Secret Invasion says.

Captain Marvel was in some ways the beginning of the end for the MCU, in that it *was* boring but also made a billion dollars sandwiched in between Infinity War and Endgame. That led to the hubris of phase 4 with mid-to-terrible TV shows one after another until the audience switched off.

It wouldn’t surprise me if he wants nothing to do with it. The only small problem there being HE IS THE SECRETARY OF STATE

Very interested if Rubio is staying out or being kept out.

They shouldn’t. Anything they say will only get back to Trump in some mangled form that will likely make things worse not better.

Oh god I’ve realised why. It’s because the alert came out of UKMTO. So he thinks it’s a British ship. It was an Indian vessel. The French one is I think CMA CGN to be fair although that hasn’t been publicly confirmed iirc.

Almost not worth pointing out:
a) I don’t think the nationalities of the ships are right. Definitely not the flag they were under.
b) he keeps contradicting the actual details of the US blockade, which is of Iranian ports specifically not the strait
c) “NO MORE MR. NICE GUY” 🙄

Back to square one. I wonder how many times we’re gonna repeat this. Third time lucky?

And on the second point, there’s a long tradition in political science (following Juan Linz) linking all presidential constitutions to the danger of executive aggrandisment and democratic breakdown. The US was the historic exception but now fits the pattern. bsky.app/profile/mark...

I actually think this is a bit of a myth. Domestically the Presidency gets stronger because of the administrative state and fiscal federalism. So FDR + the New Deal era. And internationally it’s more WW2 itself and the US taking on the role of global hegemon.
