Episode Description:
Emerging into HSI-ness is a powerful construct that we continue to explore in this episode. Irvine Valley College (IVC) is an emerging HSI community college that has been intentionally transforming its campus to better serve Latine/x students without waiting for federal HSI eligibility or Title V funding. The college is already an Asian American Native American Pacific Islander-Serving Institution (AANAPISI), having reached 41% API enrollment and receiving federal funding. In this episode our guests describe their commitment to servingness, equity, and attaining dual-eligibility regardless of the federal government’s attacks on funding. The college developed a comprehensive year-long training series based on the Transforming HSIs for Equity and Justice book and workbook that brought together faculty, classified staff, and administrators to examine institutional policies, practices, and power structures through an equity lens... continued at www.ginaanngarcia.com

Proposed Department of Education “Professional” Degree Rule Change Sparks Controversy The Department of Education is expected to implement its proposed measures starting July 1.

In letters to policymakers and with petitions, many are concerned that the ripple effect of the "professional" degree rule change could worsen critical workforce shortages in sectors like nursing, derail academic dreams, and cripple access and equity in higher education.

That was cute with respect to Dunk & Egg growing on each other, but with 90% character exposition… that was too short of an episode! #AKOTSK

It’s the first week of school for many—a time that should be filled with joy, not grief.

Those children in Minnesota were at Mass when their lives were stolen.

My heart goes out to all impacted by this act of violence. Gun violence has no place in our schools, our churches, or our communities.

Attorney General Bonta: ICE and CBP Must End Unlawful Practices in Los Angeles Immediately

"We won’t be silent. We won’t back down. We will continue to hold the federal government accountable when it violates the Constitution and federal law.”

Attorney General Bonta: ICE and CBP Must End Unlawful Practices in Los Angeles Immediately "We won’t be silent. We won’t back down. We will continue to hold the federal government accountable when it violates the Constitution and federal law.”

The actions of ICE and CBP during the raids in Los Angeles are not about safety or justice—they’re about meeting enforcement quotas and striking fear in communities.

We’ve filed a brief supporting a challenge to ICE and CBP’s unlawful practices.

We won’t back down and we won’t be silent.

Sen. Booker just broke the record for the longest floor speech in Senate history—a record set by Strom Thurmond trying to block the Civil Rights Act. The irony ain’t lost on us. From fighting against justice to fighting for it. This is what courage & being on the right side of history looks like!
