The Princess of Wales recently spoke about avoiding alcohol since her cancer diagnosis, bringing much-needed attention to the fact that alcohol is a carcinogen - something only 7% UK adults are aware of.
@wcrf.org is calling for mandatory cancer warnings on alcohol labels.

This World Obesity Day, Chloe, Senior Policy Research Manager @wcrf.org, explores what policy actions can be taken to foster healthier environments in and around schools to better protect children's health 🍎🚸
As always, there are valuable international examples to learn from!

We are delighted that @drscottarthurmp.bsky.social ky.social's Rare Cancers Bill has received Royal Assent!
The Rare Cancers Act will support increased research and investment into rare cancers, which have long been underfunded.
Congratulations to everyone involved who helped make this possible!
@nestauk.bsky.social's analysis shows the UK’s junk food marketing restrictions risk being ineffective after being watered down by a sweeping brand exemption.
This adds urgency to our calls for the UK Gov to strengthen the policy by removing the brand exemption and bringing more products in scope.
Today is #WorldCancerDay and we've been busy digesting the new National Cancer Plan for England.

Thank you to Peter Dowd MP for meeting with @wcrf.org today to discuss our work on cancer prevention and survivorship.
We value the opportunity to engage with Parliamentarians on how evidenced-based policies can address key risk factors for cancers, helping more people live cancer free.

Today the UK Government published guidelines for commercial baby food.
This is a welcome step, as levels of salt and sugar in these products are far too high and many have misleading claims. But ultimately, we need mandatory guidelines to achieve meaningful change.

Good news! The UK Government has today launched its consultation on banning the sale of high-caffeine energy drinks to under-16s - delivering on a key manifesto promise.
@sustainweb.org has long campaigned for this step, which could prevent obesity in up to 40,000 children.

Delighted to contribute a blog on Cancer Prevention Action Week and the low awareness of the links between alcohol and cancer
Amazing to take our campaign to the heart of government.
We need a National Alcohol Strategy for England, with a focus on MUP, marketing restrictions and mandatory cancer warning labels.

Want to understand the specific cancer risks when consuming alcohol and how they increase? Does a pint a day make a big difference? Are women more at risk then men?
This great Telegraph article unpicks it all with @wcrf.org's Dr Helen Croker for Cancer Prevention Action Week.

Huge thanks to @shaapalcohol.bsky.social for supporting Cancer Prevention Action Week and raising awareness on alcohol as a cause of cancer. Too few people know the risks - working together to reduce consumption, more people can avoid the devastation of an alcohol related cancer diagnosis.
A massive thank you to our partners @alcoholfocus.bsky.social for taking Cancer Prevention Action Week into Holyrood and raising awareness of alcohol as a cause of cancer. We hope MSPs will refresh the Scottish alcohol framework so fewer people receive a devastating alcohol-related cancer diagnosis
Alcohol causes cancer. Too few of us who regularly drink understand that. The minimum requirement should be a warning on products. That the industry objects shows how it’s in their commercial interests to play this information down and keep customers in the dark

Delighted to be quoted in today’s @theguardian.com as we launch @wcrf.org #CancerPreventionActionWeek. Most people don’t know alcohol increases cancer risk — but they have a right to. It’s time for mandatory warnings.

I've shared some reflections on our engagement in last week's Multi stakeholder hearing, ahead of September's High Level Meeting on NCDs and how we urgently need to press the case for cancer prevention.

📢 An IARC @who.int report confirms that policies like alcohol taxes, minimum pricing, availability controls, and marketing bans reduce alcohol use - helping prevent cancer at the population level.

Today, we’re launching a major report on dietary and lifestyle patterns and their role in cancer prevention.
It emphasises that analysing dietary and lifestyle patterns in totality can help everyone understand better the factors that play a role in cutting cancer risk

This is a powerful report that supports our research that alcohol increases the risk of up to 7 types of cancer and that there is no safe limit of drinking. The Government must act 👇

It’s great to see this @whoeurope.bsky.social report recommending health warning labels be added to alcohol packaging. Our own evidence shows alcohol is a risk factor for at least 7 cancers, yet it's exempt from any mandatory warning labels in most countries... 🧵1/2
