I'm not joking when I say mRNA technology is more important than "AI" and it's a tragedy we're throwing billions into one while our government is aggressively defunding the other.

New places are a challenge. Tougher to think, in this case, but maybe a touch easier to sleep.
A petulant man baby on the highest court in the United States.
Really gotta emphasize this: the targets & requirements in the Clean Power Plan were *so* modest, *so* conservative, *so* unambitious that *the power sector met them anyway, in the course of normal market operation*. The regs would have had basically no effect at all relative to the status quo.
How about "don't go to events honoring the First Amendment with people who don't support the First Amendment"?
Screenshotted excerpt from linked article reading as follows: "In public, Chief Justice John G. Roberts Jr. has cultivated a reputation for care and caution. The papers reveal a different side of him. At a critical moment for the country and the court, the papers show, he acted as a bulldozer in pushing to stop Mr. Obama’s plan to address the global climate crisis. When colleagues warned the chief justice that he was proposing an unprecedented move, he was dismissive. “I recognize that the posture of this stay request is not typical,” he wrote. But he argued that the Obama plan, which aimed to regulate coal-fired plants, was “the most expensive regulation ever imposed on the power sector,” and too big, costly and consequential for the court not to act immediately."

New York Times got receipts on John Roberts being like, 'I know this isn't how anything works, but a Democratic president is about to implement a policy!!'

If this actually happens, it may rank as the single most corrupt act in the history of American politics. I cannot believe this is even under discussion.
OpenAI: We’re burning money like the Joker. A miracle needs to happen for us to turn a profit
Microsoft: Please please use our AI systems, we’re teetering on the edge here
Anthropic: I wonder what’ll kill us first: lawsuits, regulations or model collapse
Media and universities: AI is here to stay
Plus my portable O2 units, which I'm looking forward to never needing again.
A duffel bag of media/games, a box of books, three quilts, a suitcase and a laundry bag of clothes, my PS5, a soundbar, a Klipsch Bluetooth speaker, a satchel of portable games (DS, Analogue Pocket), an instant pot, two laptops, and misc toiletries/comfort items and essentials. Somehow it all fit.
How do you pack for six months away from home? This is impossible.
Definitely Star Control 2. I am always here to pitch this game to younger players who want to learn about the history of sci-fi epics like Mass Effect. store.steampowered.com/app/2645580/...
Scarier than genocide? Scarier than ICE agents shooting protesters? Scarier than immigrant children in cages? Scarier than a president threatening to wipe out another country? jfc these people.
Last day in Savannah before we leave for Durham. Trying not to overdo it but there's a surprising amount of stuff I consider essential for a 4-6 month stay.
Pulmonary rehab at Duke starts Monday but I'm well ahead of my fitness targets for transplant. Hoping things move quickly now. 🤞
I think you can trade three diplos for a clavicular.
A stack of dvds. A mix of modern sci-fi, xennial cult classics, and animated favorites. Full series of The Expanse and Batman the Animated Series.
Starting to pack for Durham. My current shortlist of physical media that is making the trip with me.
(Apropos of nothing, this movie is on my shortlist of physical media that's coming with me to Durham to watch while I'm recovering. One of my favorite films!)
Boy I wonder how puppet shows came up
Fast-food chain Taco Bell rebrands as a defence contractor.
Still amazes me that these guys make opposition to affirmative action a centerpiece to their ideology.
"SMELL BAD" is probably my most-quoted movie line. It is frequently useful!
I'd call him an empty suit but he doesn't even have that.
I'd never heard of this guy before a week or two ago when I saw the video of him getting destroyed in five seconds on the mat. I didn't think it was possible that hearing him talk would leave me even less impressed, but here we are.
I always make people watch the extended cuts when I show them Aliens for the first time. The only scenes I'd probably have left out were the scenes at the colony leading up to the outbreak. I think it's so much more effective to follow the Marines in cold.

I sort of understand the impulse to outsource your thinking, given ::waves hands:: but every time someone does it, it genuinely makes everything worse. We need to be able to think!
I mostly blame the AI evangelists for this: they have promoted their snake oil as a miraculous answer to every "internet" question so people who don't understand anything about LLMs beyond the propaganda think that they can do anything.
Played through the demo several times. Very challenging game. Loved it.
Magyar’s speech is powered. From a contact in the audience: “He’s basically just asked all the puppets, all the supreme justices, all the heads of media, all the heads of the ministries to leave their jobs tomorrow and not wait to be fired.”
