Romolla vtuber sitting at a table with a surprised expression on her face. In front of her on the table is a birthday cake with Rocket the ferret bursting out of the center of the cake. Rocket has her front paws raised into the air and has a happy expression. Rocket has some frosting and a birthday candle on top of her head and Romolla has some frosting splattered on her cheeks.

GANGSTER GOES TO WAR.
HITLER'S "WHITE HOPE."
Portrait of Hitler's White Hope: he is Erich Rommel, the man he sent to Tripoli to conquer Egypt. It is as well to know the man---you will hear a good deal more of him before this war is won.
Rommel, now a lieutenant-general, is that rarity in the German army, a high officer not drawn from the Prussian military class. No "von" nonsense about Erich, nor the code of conduct--such as it was--that most Prussian officers honoured in war.
He is a gangster general trained in a harder school than Chicago. He was Hitler's thug organiser before he came to power. His band of gangsters ended up with a notable list of murders, maimings, and burnings to its discredit.
Of course, it was rather illegal, but when Hitler became Chancellor, it could be put on a proper footing.

This is just a brief summary but the longer I write historical analysis via 240 characters, the more it makes me feel like a truly deranged individual, so here is one of my favourite newspaper articles doing a piece on Rommel from the time period by hyping him up with "no von nonsense about him"

similar, called "Soviet Deep Battle". They did not use similar trench warfare strategies, and in fact, built their own systems around it as well! Therefore, when the German soldiers went to the East, they were, within days, alarmed at the soldiers and partisan resistance, and how different it was.

Not only that, blitzkrieg, as mentioned earlier, was a military tactic developed further in reaction to trench warfare. However, the eastern front of WW1 was actually less defined by trench warfare, and more about how rapidly front lines could shift. The soviets had their own version of something--

This is why historians today tend to agree that Barbarossa was impossible to win from the getgo. It was not simply Hitler picking up on weakness and striking (and if it was, perhaps that only shows his own lack of understanding!) but a desperate last ditch effort for stabilizing their trenchcoat.

said that the USSR's military structure was weak and useless, and all they needed to do was "kick the door down, and the whole building will fall apart". But it cannot be overstated how much Germany needed the resources from the USSR, and how this really was the root cause of it. This is key!

this strategy would be as effective as it was. Even with a capitulated France, it did not solve the resource or economic issues. Which leads us to Barbarossa! There is a common saying around Barbarossa that Hitler witnessed how successful the Finns in the Winter War fared vs the USSR, and that he---

In order to defeat France, they sent rows of tank deployments with tank operators on Pervitin (meth) to France to break their lines by making them run for 24 hours straight through the woods until they encircled their lines. Since trench warfare was about, well, entrenching yourself, you can see why

To understand why the Germans were succesful in WW2 initially takes a bit of understanding WW1 but also a little bit of understanding the history of meth! Trench warfare was considered PEAK military strategy, and a lot of the development of military theory was to defeat this. Blitz is just 1 example

Of course, this was a fatal mistake, as the annexed territories Hitler gained also gave him access to their gold reserves, and allowed this system to maintain itself a little longer. This culminates in the attack on Poland, where the UK and France enter the war with Germany and begins the Phoney War

1 week ago 24 1 1 0

In order to solve this, the Nazis leaned into aggressive posturing to reassert their claims to "previously owned territory". The western front of WW1 was especially anti-war and no politican was interested in a domestic scandal over it, which is a major contributor for appeasement at the time.

actual plan for development or how to get out of it, but simply used them with the expectations it'd be solved, somehow. This was made even worse by the lack of access to military resources, for which they had access via trade but would quickly be cut off if anything happened (with exceptions lmao)

The economy was essentially three gigantic IOUs in a trench coat like. Due to the WW1 peace treaty, they were limited with their access to rearmament and economy, and so, they created government issued IOUs which funded primarily their military complex, but also civilian infrastructure. They had no-

I cannot state this enough. I still hear random sparks of Nazi propaganda every so often, and it's honestly laughable considering how history actually reflects them. I've written a little bit about how they functioned so you can laugh at whoever tries to tell you they fixed the economy or whatever--
