Today I turn 89. I’ve seen this country at its best and its worst, and I know how much community matters. For my birthday, I’m asking you to stand with PFLAG and support the work that’s helped so many in the LGBTQ+ community, including me. give.pflag.org/page/95493/d...

Great news: in England it is #NationalTeaDay Meaning it's time for Pieter van Roestraten, a Dutch painter working in England. And, by a wonderful coincidence, he was born on this day in 1630.

An image showing John Muir on the left, and on the right, his quote, "Climb the mountains and get their good tidings. Nature's peace will flow into you as sunshine flows into trees. The winds will blow their own freshness into you, and the storms their energy, while cares will drop off like autumn leaves," on a teal background with a thumbnail of the cover of the book Leadership Lessons with the Beatles at the bottom left.

Herb-Paris (Paris quadrifolia) in a rather manky chalk scarp wood nr Alvediston, Wiltshire today. Unhelpfully likes hiding amongst dense Dog's Mercury Mercurialis perennis, which can make things difficult. @bsbibotany.bsky.social

A5: Mulch is your firewall against weeds! A thick layer of organic mulch prevents weed seeds from getting the sunlight they need to germinate. For the few bugs (weeds) that sneak through the system, pull them by hand when they are young and the soil is damp. #DigiBlogChat

My husband loves to drive but the DVLA is very slow in returning his licence, so he can't do much overseas right now. #digiblogchat

We're opting for the trains this time. A full week in Genoa with Cinque Terre on sight. What would you recommend? #digiblogchat

I love tripe, but the tripe resto in Milan is fully booked. I'm on the waiting list. I know, it's niche. My mother used to cook me such a good meal. #digiblogchat

A8: If I were generating a garden from scratch, I’d prioritise soil health and try to create a nutrient-rich, well-drained soil. I'd do more research into plants and soil suitability and look to create a tapestry of colours for all seasons. #DigiBlogChat

What not to miss in Milan, Chris? We are forgoing Lake Como this time. I suspect we will see a lot of Milan as a sort of landing place. We are heading to Genoa and Cinque Terre #DigiBlogChat

A10. Every day is a surprise in the garden. I love seeing volunteers appear from last year’s seeds or plants. #DigiBlogChat Saw this little one this morning in the rain.

We plan to walk around and soak up the atmosphere. My husband asked me about shopping, but I think he's not aware that Milan is not Leeds 😂 #DigiBlogChat

I won't be surprised. Looking forward to good food everywhere. I have been to Trieste and it's lovely combined with a holiday in Slovenia. Turin we will see next month. Only a day there but it's enough, I think. #DigiBlogChat
