A rare public rebuke from a Russian industrialist: Vladimir Boglaev, director of the Cherepovets Foundry and Mechanical Plant, says the country's state authorities have lost touch with reality and that Russia faces upheaval comparable to the Soviet collapse. t.me/Russian_Faus...

News I'm hearing from across universities is disastrous. The sector has been falling apart for months, but the process is now continuously speeding up. Outside a small handful of institutions, HE as we've known it has basically zero future.

🇬🇪🇭🇺Viktor Orbán lost Hungary's election yesterday. For most Europeans, this is a relief. For Georgian Dream, it is a strategic catastrophe.
Their single most important protector in Europe is gone. Here's what that actually means.

Hungary’s newly elected prime minister Péter Magyar signaled he will not block the EU’s €90 billion loan to Ukraine, noting the decision has already been made, but confirmed that Hungary will not take part in it.
People will be closely studying how Hungary's opposition pulled off their win in such a pro-incumbent system. Important to note that the theme was corruption. Democrats need to get much better at calling out Trump's corruption.
This is a major problem. Certain high-status institutions are hoovering up students for whom they don't have space or teaching capacity.
It's not good for students, it's driving other universities to disaster and it has none of the benefits of either a planned or a "market" system.

One is reminded of the story of King Croesus, who, before attacking Persia, consulted the oracle. The oracle told him that if he proceeded, he would destroy a great nation. What Croesus didn't realize was that the nation would be his own.
Such a fantastic conversation. Definitely need to get the book...
