Now *this* is an event I would love to be present for. I already have the book, and it expresses my feelings (and yours) exactly.

The legend that characters run away from their authors—taking up drugs, having sex operations, and becoming president—implies that the writer is a fool with no knowledge or mastery of his craft. The idea of authors running around helplessly behind their cretinous inventions is contemptible. 😅
Far from Fawlty/Faulty, this place! Absolutely having THE BEST TIME. Great people, wonderful conversations, cracking performance and readings, yummy food, lots of peace and the constant rotation of new people across all art forms is quite exciting. It's exceeded my expectations. #TyroneGuthrieCentre

Well clearly you do!
Oh God, that place. Good craic though. Dermot O'L. was the only one to grab a career from the BA in Writing & Publishing! And the local chipper always trying to flog you smokeables when all you wanted was a hummus kebab! I remember being very intimidated by your brilliant 'Writing Narrative' module!

That was a real *moment* for the short story in Ireland...I nearly threw in the towel when you casually mentioned Anne Enright and Eimear McBride were in it 😃!
What a way to end publication day! For the Guardian, I’ve written a piece on navigating the weird and wonderful word of Muriel Spark.
Read it, and do give my book a read, too.

It is so hard to believe that on the same day humanity has travelled further than ever before, that prick ruined it for everyone by threatening nuclear war. This should be a day of wonder at human ingenuity, not terror at the evil we are capable of
