Oh God, that place. Good craic though. Dermot O'L. was the only one to grab a career from the BA in Writing & Publishing! And the local chipper always trying to flog you smokeables when all you wanted was a hummus kebab! I remember being very intimidated by your brilliant 'Writing Narrative' module!

That was a real *moment* for the short story in Ireland...I nearly threw in the towel when you casually mentioned Anne Enright and Eimear McBride were in it 😃!

Where to start with: Muriel Spark From an extraordinary debut inspired by a real-life breakdown to a creepy masterpiece, here’s a guide to the Scottish novelist’s works

What a way to end publication day! For the Guardian, I’ve written a piece on navigating the weird and wonderful word of Muriel Spark.

Read it, and do give my book a read, too.

It is so hard to believe that on the same day humanity has travelled further than ever before, that prick ruined it for everyone by threatening nuclear war. This should be a day of wonder at human ingenuity, not terror at the evil we are capable of

Blue badge permits now held by 1 in 15 adults in England Councils urged to crack down on misuse of parking permits that help people with disabilities and health conditions

When we're back to language about the "deserving" disabled people vs the undeserving ones, from a random group like the AA, I fear it betrays how widespread anti disability rhetoric has become

Agree, it's really annoying. And for every recycling machine that breaks down after eating only 5 plastic bottles, the shop owner should be beaten to death, politely.
