I did not know this, either.

This story cracked me up, especially the part about Radley's feisty wife.
Loved writing about the Shoemakers again. They have another Olympic Marathon Trials qualifier in the family. www.runnersworld.com/news/a707363...
Kudos to @karaswisher.bsky.social and Vox for getting that interview with Bill Cohan into today's episode of the @pivotpod.bsky.social about Ellisons/Netflix/WBD. I get so much news from pods these days, and that was good deadline journalism.
Whoa, what is this, I wrote a football story (sort of). lookouteugene-springfield.com/story/ducks/...
I couldn't stop watching this at the state XC meet Saturday. He was ON IT. lookouteugene-springfield.com/story/sports...
Some very tired words from Beaver Stadium, where we were treated to one of the best Oregon games, well, ever.
Are these Ducks good? The question has been answered.

On my bye week of editing Oregon football, I'm going to the Oregon Shakespeare Festival in Ashland. Merry Ducks of Windsor. I mean Merry Wives of Windsor.
Today's training plan was for 5 miles but when I got to the trail and it was raining hard for the first time in months, that quickly changed into 0 miles with 1 Egg McMuffin. Strava doesn't seem to have a setting for that.
Susanna Sullivan's gutsy fourth-place finish at Worlds in Tokyo yesterday made me dig out this story I wrote about her in 2023 when she was first coming on the marathon scene (before Worlds in Budapest, which did not go well for her). Amazing what she does. www.runnersworld.com/runners-stor...
This video makes me so happy, @tysonalger.bsky.social, @annieaguiar.bsky.social

Really frightening moment Saturday night at Hayward Field, after the 400-meter hurdles. A volunteer suffered a cardiac arrest and went down in front of more than 9,000 horrified spectators, including his wife. Thankfully, this story has a happy ending.
My husband of 22 years just asked me if we are Instagram official 😂
Texted neighbor that we forgot to stop the papers while we were away overnight and my phone autocorrected papers to poets and imagine a world where you had to stop the mail and the poets when you went out of town.
That was a good one!
Should have made that clear. She said when we stopped recording that he is still coaching her, but she's in such early stages with her workouts now, she's doing them on her own. When she is ready, she'll call him.
Enjoyed this video from @nikkihiltz.bsky.social about re-signing with Lulu and their new coach, Juli Benson. It does imply that Nike moved the goalposts on the whole "grandfathering" in part—or that at least Smith and Hiltz didn't have all the information up front. www.youtube.com/watch?v=rjFk...
Right. But when I learned last summer that Mike Smith was going to Nike, the word then was that all his athletes with other brands could be grandfathered in. I'm not sure he or any of the athletes were clear at that time that it was only for the life of their current contract. It's kind of a mystery
Last thing: now on watch for athletes from other brands who work with Mike Smith or Diljeet Taylor: Luis Grijalva, Nico Young (he's probably fine for a while), Whittni Morgan, Courtney Wayment. Will they sign with Nike to stay with their coach? Possibly gives Nike an inside track on top talent.
Nikki is a fantastic runner, accustomed to working independently. No one around them doubts they'll continue to be great. And Juli is an excellent coach. But the way this all developed has felt like best-case scenario, a misunderstanding. Worst-case scenario, kind of sneaky.
there was confusion about what would happen to athletes from other brands who worked with Smith. They initially thought "grandfathered in" meant grandfathered in indefinitely. I learned in Dec. that it meant only for the life of their current contract. Nike confirmed that this month. (2/3 oops)
Today @nikkihiltz.bsky.social announced on their instagram that they will be coached by Juli Benson. This is surely because Nike's SwooshTC has swooped up Mike Smith, who was coaching Nikki previously. I've done a lot of reporting on this topic—and it seems like (1/2)
I went through a year of whatever I felt like every morning-- and now I'm back to aisle. I bet wordle could track the national mood with this data.
