Frankly, there are very few movies that wouldn’t be vastly improved by adding Godzilla

I obviously spend too much time on here as I watched the Coyote vs. Acme trailer and thought "wait, is Foghorn Leghorn in the Epstein Files?"

I study racism for a living and can still manage to be shocked by how institutionalized it is. What do you mean they were giving tax-breaks to white supremacists celebrating treason?

This may be a fundamentally new kind of sin blending blasphemy, idolatry, divination, and simony, among others. Those who are not horrified at this may be entirely lacking in authentic religious awareness and feeling.

IMHO this is an example of a certain strand of leftism that adheres so rigidly to an abstract principle that it can’t abandon it even when the facts of a situation indicate that a different position should be taken

I’m a big fan of Tomy’s analogue video games of the 80s. Stuff like this and Screwball Scramble and Kongman and Aaaaghhh!

It was a weird generation of hybrid technology when you had this and stuff like Game & Watch at the same time.

Ok I have seen a GOOD APRIL FOOLS JOKE in the wild.

My kids comic (Phoenix - home if @jamiesmart.bsky.social) comes in an envelope every week, we open it, had a fake cover for a soup review mag like we’d been sent the wrong thing.

Genius!

[We see a close up of a young white male, tanned, white teeth, coiffed hair clearly an influencer on social media. It is an image such as you see when social media posts are shown on the news. In the corner of the screen is named a location: DUBAI. He is staring slightly off-camera for several silent panels of the comic strip. His eyes move slightly. He is having a thought.]

From off-screen a newsreader’s commentary comes:

NEWSREADER:

Extraordinary images here

of an expat in Dubai

[The influencer’s eybrows raise slightly]

…Having their first ever geopolitical thought.

[CUT TO a BBC news scene. The BBC newsreader CLIVE MYRIE is talking to an interviewee next to the screen showing the social media influencer’s face. The interviewee’s name is David Jones].

CLIVE MYRIE:

To explain the significance of this moment we’re joined by David Jones, our Expat Thoughts correspondent

DAVID JONES:

Clive, this is momentous

It was caught on film at the end of an Instagram post titled: ‘Dubai Is Brilliant’.

[Pointing at the screen, the influencer’s expression still the same]

You can clearly see in the eyebrows here, the dawning realisation that there *might* be something in the world beyond his dickhead self.

It marks a *huge* departure from all the Dubai Expat’s previous thoughts.

CLIVE MYRIE:

Which are…?

DAVID JONES:

You've Got To Get Yourself Out Here Mate, Everything Is So Clean, I Don't Have To Pay Taxes,
I Am Incurious As To Why I Do Not Have To Pay Taxes, and Spa.

CLIVE MYRIE:

And might we see an expansion of these new Thoughts in coming days?

DAVID JONES:

I think we can expect to see:

“I Deserve To Be Airlifted By A Country I Pay No Tax To”

CLIVE MYRIE:

Mmm.

[Ends]

5-year prison sentence and lifetime driving ban for man that killed West Flemish family while driving drunk | VRT NWS: news A 51-year-old man responsible for a road accident in which a couple and their young daughter lost their lives in the summer of 2024 has been given a 5-year prison sentence, part of which suspended. He...

This is all very well, but this guy "already had 14 previous convictions for motoring offences". So why was he still on the road? A 5-year prison sentence (4 of which suspended) and lifetime driving ban seem mild punishment. Maybe there's no such thing as manslaughter in Belgian law.
