A publishers marketplace report reading:
Category: Childen's: Young Adult Fiction
Of Auras and Shadows by Taylor Grothe
Imprint: Peachtree Teen
Author of forthcoming HOLLOW Taylor Grothe's OF AURAS AND SHADOWS, a queer YA fantasy, pitched as combining the romance of A Dark and Drowning Tide with the horror of The Witcher, in which a girl, who suffers from migraines, falls through one of her auras and into the autumnal, wraith-filled Otherworld, where she meets a sharp-edged girl who is being ritualistically used by the ruling secular cult that promised to cure her, and vows to save the girl she's growing to love, even if it means becoming a pawn in the cult's plans for war, to Ashley Hearn at Peachtree Teen, for publication in fall 2026, by Larissa Melo Pienkowski at Jill Grinberg Literary Management (world).
SURPRISE! I get to write another book with the phenomenal Ashley Hearn at Peachtree Teen!!!!
I'm so excited to share this horromantasy with you NEXT FALL (ahhhh!!!)
What if my migraine auras were actually magic? What if the lymphatic system held the power to change reality? 👀 let’s find out!!

A mood board that shows various images of two girls, some in black and white and others in full, dark colors
After a holiday hiatus, I’m back to working on edits/draft 2 of TMTMU, my YA gothic fantasy!
There’s a lot of work ahead but I’m telling myself not to rush. It’s okay to take as much time as I need to tell this particular story the right way.
New moodboard to celebrate 🖤

Usually I’m overwhelmed when I sit down to edit a book, but this time I’m weirdly calm? And excited?
I will not be deceived. Where is my panic

My mom used to read with me all the time, but life happened and she got away from it.
I recently gave her a book to read and she devoured it. Then she asked me to pick out more for her. I’m so excited to go to the bookstore and add a few books to her Christmas presents. 🥹

Tell me why I, a person who notoriously struggles with time travel narratives, now have an idea for a story involving time-based magic. 🫠

I wonder what it’s like to have a Spotify Wrapped that isn’t influenced by writing/book playlists

Good luck to all the eldest daughters this month. I’ve already picked and bought half the gifts for my parents and started planning the baking schedule.

Writing is fine. It's literally the most embarrassing thing on earth to emotionally put yourself on full display for rejection or validation, but it's good. I enjoy it. I find it therapeutic to horrify myself.

hey not to be all corny but please understand and internalize that your creative work is vital and beautiful whether others see/hear it or not and that your creative expression enriches the world just by your having done it

Writers this is your reminder to go outside, hang out with a friend, or partake in another hobby. We are so often in our heads and it’s important to come back to reality and refill our wells.

Author of So Let Them Burn and the forthcoming This Ends In Embers Kamilah Cole's WICKED ENDEAVORS, a YA romantasy duology set in a Spanish Renaissance-inspired kingdom, about a vengeful teen who cons her way into a high society of elite witches, only for her revenge to be threatened by her warring feelings for both a manipulative enemy prince and the stoic childhood friend who betrayed her, pitched as a love letter to the power of Black women's anger, to Alexandra Hightower at Little, Brown Children's, in a six-figure deal , at auction, in a two-book deal, for publication in summer 2026, by Emily Forney at BookEnds (world).

✨ YA BOOK NEWS ✨
I'm so excited to announce that my next YA duology, a romantasy called WICKED ENDEAVORS, is coming in Summer 2026!
If So Let Them Burn was about the power of love, then Wicked Endeavors is about the poisonous yet motivating power of hate. Black female rage abounds in this one 😈

Sometimes I lament that I’m not where I want to be. That 4 years have passed and I’m still in the same place.
But if I had gotten agented on the first book, would I have written the ones that followed? Would I have challenged my own writing?
Food for thought for those still chasing the dream. 💜
