Taking the Northeast Regional to New London and getting off the train and walking (or running if time is tight 😅) right onto the Cross Sound Ferry is an all time New England transpo experience for me. And golden hour on my ferry ride before making it to Greenport for dinner. A good time

This museum was the absolute best
Why is the rent so damn high in LA? Simple economics: the demand for housing is extremely high and our housing supply is extremely low.
Can cities just replace parking spots with trees?
One borough of Montreal has been experimenting with quick, cheap implementations of this for greenery, shade, and water management.
But there’s been controversy due to losing parking and the fact that it doesn’t look as polished as bigger projects.
Public bathroom spotted at Highland Park station along the Metro A Line 👍🏻
There’s a whole museum dedicated to chronicling the story of the history of the river, the highway project, the politics that led to its transition to its current design for public. Quite good storytelling
Hard to come up with a better example of one whose research made this world better.
When you ride a bike over what used to be a parking lane, when your kids play without fear of being killed by a motorist or when you breathe cleaner air in your city, give Donald Shoup a small silent thanks.
It’s one thing to read peer-reviewed research on all the ways that minimum parking mandates harm our economy. It’s another thing to hear it from small business owners who’ve been unable to expand, or unable to open, or forced to close, or lost their retirement savings

NYC estimates that this "city of yes" policy will add 80,000 housing units over 15 years.
For context, NYC added about 248,000 units between 2010–2020, so assuming that baseline construction rate continues, this policy would equal a roughly 22% increase on top of that, or 301,000 units/10 years.
NYC approves its set of major land-use changes:
—No parking requirements in many areas (pink areas); reduced in yellow areas
—20% density bonus for affordable units
—ADUs in many parts of city
—Increased infill densities
—$5 b for infrastructure & affordable housing
