Are you using Linux for music production? I'd love to hear from you!

I'll certainly keep people updated as I go.

Also dipping my toes into designing my own instruments and tools.

It's early days, but I've already started on my next release, and I'm enjoying being in the studio.

Plus the open source philosophy sits really nicely with me.

I thought I'd be at a loss without waves, kontakt, etc, but so far I've found really good alternatives, and also a great community around designing, building and sharing awesome plugins and instruments.

And I'm enjoying playing with some new toys without having the old stalwarts to fall back on.

So far everything is running really smoothly. The interface just worked, all my midi controllers are talking.

I've been exploring many of the open source plugins and I'm really impressed.

I've just built a new computer for my studio running Ubuntu Studio.

The main DAW is Reaper, which was already my main workhorse - I switched after ProTools became a subscription service.

I'm trying to avoid running WINE or yabridge. I want to explore options truly native to Linux.

Can you do professional level work on Linux?

Anyone use Linux for audio and video production?

I'm curious about the compatibility/reliability of things like Native Instruments, Waves, Slate Drums etc with WINE or yabridge... Or suggestions for good alternatives?

10 years ago this week I flew into Reykjavik, had a beer while swimming in the snow, ate cheap lobster, played a gig in the theatre, then flew home again. It was amazing.
