Decatur is awesome. I always tell prospective students that Atlanta / Decatur is a fantastic place to be a broke grad student / postdoc

Chemistry in current events: the connections between fertilizer, the Haber-Bosch process, and the Persian Gulf. Read this and your knowledge will exceed that of most of our current political leadership after only a few minutes of light work:
which brand of prescription safety goggles did you get? Iāve heard good things about stoggles but donāt NEED a new pair quite yet.
Solution to job rejection blues. Onward and upward! :)
yeah I figured, bummed I cant make it this year, looks like a blast.
Check out anticoās pizza! Should be ~10 min from the venue.
Woahhh Iām (sorta) on a paper with Scott Bagley!
P.s. Iām sure youāll be plenty busy with ACS, but if you somehow end up around Emory can we take a pic with my heptanes bottle for #TeamHeptanes
I also love that they emphasized Kyleās favorite word: āCrypticā (coined by Brad Moore)
I know I literally just saw this!!! I literally did the like cartoon *spits drink, wipes glasses, eyes pop out of the socket* emote whe I saw it!
Made Sophia Kyle and Iās day :)
Just curious, do you buy this or make it with the prep im seeing in org lett (š journal)
This is a really cool transformation, congrats to all involved. Can say from firsthand experience that a lot of those existing 2-H indazole synthesis donāt work as well as advertised (at least in my handsā¦)
this is such a awesome transformation, congrats to everyone! Kyle and I are real interested in a few of these products in particular š
no worries! this one has been haunting me for a bit. thanks for sharing it!
might have missed it but did you post a solution for this one?
Chicago: if youāre around the southside, the point is a beautiful park around the lake. Also Strings is an amazing ramen place in Chinatown - very easily accessible from the train
Lots more on this project that I cant share quite yet, but special thanks to the Sieber lab at TUM for hosting me in Munich to learn and perform these chemoproteomic experiments! Lipoprotein trafficking is clearly an attractive target for gram(-)ās, especially for beta-lactamase expressing bacteria.
We then demonstrated that OXA-23, the beta-lactamase that confers resistance, is itself an outer-membrane lipoprotein. Inhibiting lipoprotein trafficking via LolF thus also causes over-accumulation of OXA-23 to the inner membrane, which exaggerates these inhibitorās antibiotic properties.
To understand this unique effect, we used a photoaffinity probe of this HTS hit to assign the Lol complex as the protein target of this compound! Resistance selection, Lol overexpression, and CRISPR studies also confirm lipoprotein trafficking as the major MOA.
Also, an awesome collaborative paper I worked on during my PhD is now published in PNAS!
www.pnas.org/doi/10.1073/...
Our collaborators discovered a small molecule that is a BETTER antibiotic against beta-lactam resistant bacteria than beta-lactam sensitive ones. We wanted to understand why.
ATL Roller Derby Pride match! Highly recommend checking out if thereās a team near you :)
nice turnout in ATL!
J Med Chem is on š„ with the editorials lately, and I highly recommend giving this one a read. Understanding free drug principles is the gateway to all of pharmacology, and is all too often mangled and misapplied by drug discovery practitioners.
literally just had to do this for all my procedures for an SI⦠add this to the list of things AI could probably do that would be useful š„²

never used it, but always thought the Beckmann rearrangement was a neat and weird one

My PhD Defense is tomorrow!! If youāre interested in hearing about some soon-to-be published work on the discovery and synthesis of new gram-negative antibiotic compounds with a unique mechanism of action, DM for a zoom link!
tbh Iām trying to be both at the same time
yikes same, didnāt realize thisā¦
