Well, it was snowing, sleeting, freezing rain, and hailing all yesterday afternoon. What city have I moved to, I thought it was April! ๐Ÿซฃโ„๏ธ๐ŸŒง๏ธ๐ŸŒท #Canada #Toronto #April

I've now fallen down a blackhole of searching for research on this. ๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜… I think fortified iron isn't quite as magnetically efficient as elemental iron, but yeah, it does have enough iron in it to pull it out with a magnet (if you crush it up first). I feel the brewings of an experiment... ๐Ÿค”๐Ÿงฒ๐Ÿฅฃ

I think the cornflake would need to be made out of iron filings to be lifted by the magnet, but I feel like this is a calculation that is worth looking into! ๐Ÿ˜†

Just came across 'bran magnetic resonance imaging' in a paper, and now I can't stop thinking about doing MRI scans of breakfast cereal. ๐Ÿงฒ๐Ÿง ๐Ÿฅฃ๐Ÿงช

What legacy will we leave? We are here for barely a blink of an eye in a nearly 14 billion year old Universe, adrift in the vastness of space on this tiny, improbable world. The question of what we do with that time feels like the most important one of all. 4/4 ๐Ÿงช

How is it that we - as humans - are capable of so much, and yet so little? We have stretched our reach beyond our own atmosphere, now back to the Moon, and sent our telescopes to the edges of the Solar System - and yet we threaten entire civilisations. 3/4 ๐Ÿงช

We can spend an entire lifetime exploring, questioning, and marvelling at our universe - from the grandest cosmic scales to the smallest subatomic whispers - and never reach the end of all there is to know. It is a gift.โ€จโ€จBe passionately curious. 2/4 ๐Ÿงช

One of my favourite things about being a scientist is the ability to ask questions, and the comfort of knowing I don't have all of the answers. 1/4 ๐Ÿง‘โ€๐Ÿ”ฌโš›๏ธ๐Ÿง ๐Ÿฉปโœจ๐Ÿ”ญ๐Ÿงฒ๐Ÿงช

I've been quiet this past month because my thesis has turned into quite the hill to climb. But I'm still steadily chipping away at it! T-minus 3 weeks to go before we set off to Toronto! ๐Ÿง โš›๏ธ๐Ÿง‘โ€๐Ÿ”ฌ๐Ÿฉป๐Ÿง‘โ€๐Ÿ’ป๐Ÿงช #PhDLife #PhDThesis #Academia #MedicalPhysics

Ha ha ha! Yes, I think the swirly lines were some way of trying to incorporate white matter tracts? ChatGPT sometimes comes out with very strange stuff.

Hi Dave, would love to meet up at the end of Feb to chat about Venus! It would be nice to catch up with you and @planetgreaves.bsky.social!

I asked ChatGPT to make a cartoon of me at work based on our past conversations. First, it made a picture of a man (because only men can be scientists?). Then, after describing what I looked like, it made this.

Where do I find a little brain friend to sit on my shoulder?! ๐Ÿง‘โ€๐Ÿ”ฌ๐Ÿงฒ๐Ÿง โš›๏ธ๐Ÿงช

Aw, I would have loved to have caught up (and joined a panel)! Yeah, we are looking at moving around the end of March, so unfortunately I won't be in the UK for Easter if things go to plan. ๐Ÿฅฒ Always happy to meet up online though!

Happy to announce I accepted a #postdoc at SickKids Hospital in Toronto for Spring 2026! I'll be continuing my work on paediatric brain tumours (MRI). Things feel more real now that we've booked our flights (including for our cats) and sold our flat! ๐Ÿ˜ฑโš›๏ธ๐Ÿงฒ๐Ÿง ๐Ÿง‘โ€๐Ÿ”ฌ๐Ÿงช๐ŸŽ‰

What weird little guys.
