Turns out I was giving Polanski too much credit on Ukraine. What the fuck is he talking about here? Putin has an ICC warrant for the industrial kidnapping of tens of thousands of Ukrainian kids & rewarded the soldiers who massacred civillians Bucha with medals for their ‘bravery’

This doesn't seem credible. If they were willing to U-turn ("block" isn't the right term for an appointment No 10 made itself), they wouldn't have announced Mandelson's appointment before vetting was completed.

The government claims the #NHS “is the best-placed system in the world” to take advantage of AI. My soundings with digital professionals and NHS managers working in this area suggest they're kidding themselves. My latest for Healthcare Manager.

Péter Magyar calls on Hungarian President Tamás Sulyok to resign:
"He didn't say a word when thousands of Hungarian children were abused by pedophiles — pedophiles who were appointed by this govt, awarded by this govt or pardoned by this govt... Resign... We don't need the puppets of the mafia."
"Other than those outside schools or areas with vulnerable individuals". That's exactly where 20mph zones have been implemented.
Donald Trump posting an AI meme depicting himself as Jesus tending a sick man.
I don't think there's any point or message to this. It's just a deranged old man posting random narcissistic shit.
(Trump, not our John obviously)

Trump says Pope Leo is "weak on crime" but the Vatican's crime figures compare pretty favourably with the US's.

A lesson we in the UK need to learn... fast.
Magyar is asking Hungary's president, a puppet of Orban, to resign once he gives Magyar the mandate to form a Govt

Orban's out. Don't expect him to go quietly though.
Your first point is a fair one, although I don't think it was very different in the 2020-24 period.
You would need to present a lot more evidence to convince me that Starmer is a "fascist". But Farage definitely is one and a lot of people on the left seem to oblivious to the threat he poses.
I understand the antipathy towards Starmer, it's the apathy towards Farage that I don't get.
They must be secret, private ways because I don't see it (much) here. But the organised radical left in the UK only seems to be interested in Palestine and sectarian infighting these days.
Yes, there are definitely some people who think like that. They try, but they can't quite hide their glee when Reform do well.
That wasn't the question I was asking. I was asking why they don't oppose Farage at least as aggressively as they do Starmer. Because they really don't.
"The Art of the Deal"
Some elements on the left have always been *much* more interested in going after the "moderate" left than conservatives or even fascists. It's the same here in the UK: very vocal about Starmer but mostly silent about Farage.
News clip from the Guardian: "Iranian navy threatens ships in strait of Hormuz without permission"
Trump's peace "deal" is an absolute joke. He's achieved nothing.
Clip of Daily Telegraph story with headline "The nuclear bomb shaped hole in Trump's Iran win" with intro that reads "The Islamic Republic is just as close to developing a nuclear weapon as when the war began"
So in what possible sense is it a "win"?
How on earth can the trip planned by King Charles possibly go ahead with Trump making statements like this?
Kanye West being booked to headline Wireless Fest on all three nights feels like a major and utterly grim cultural shift. Ten years ago, a huge artist who recorded and released a tune called “Heil H*tler” would have gone to the wilderness and stayed there. But he has been welcomed back in through the front door. And this is on the heads of the festival organisers, each of whom should be publicly grilled about this choice. Indulgence of anti-Semitism is one of the early warning signs of the return of old horrors, and it doesn’t get more indulgent than this.
Another one of those pointless interviews on the BBC where a so-called Trump "insider", this time Ezra Cohen, comes on and just repeats Trump's lies and distortions unchallenged. "Trump supporter supports Trump" isn't news and isn't interesting.

Hannan never seems to care whether what he says makes sense or contradicts what he's said elsewhere.
And he was of course the author of this spectacular gem, which needs another outing in case anyone missed it.

I don't think the government/NHS distinction is meaningful anymore when it comes to NHSE.
Fraser Nelson. Not quite as stellar as Truss but I'm still quite proud of it.
Not sure the headline reflects the story. DHSC and NHSE could take action on most of the things he wants to see. But they haven't.
And it was the government that decided neighbourhood health wasn't the priority - cutting and reorganising ICBs was.
Hey up @england.nhs.uk. Where's the 'model neighbourhood document'?
Asking for a friend. Well, quite a few friends actually.
