It may be freezing out there, but the Lions were on fire.

Boyteen did the “all the friends are home for the holidays” gathering this afternoon after he & I ran some errands, & then the Hubbs, Girlteen & I just chilled & vegged on this Shortest Day. Watched
✔️Suicide Squad
✔️X-Men Apocalypse
✔️Five Nights at Freddy’s
& now SNL.
Not a bad day at all.
Thank you for yours, Sommer. Stay fierce.
From Gongwer.
P.s. I have nothing more to say (or write) on this matter to you or anyone else. I said what I said & meant every word of it.

Karen Whitsett, may you receive all that you deserve in this life & the next for acting in such a way that has given you temporary fame & false glory, but in fact, has caused harm for Michiganders & future generations.
Clap.
Clap.
Clap.
Clap.
Clap.
Signed,
Me

It is sad & pathetic that you got used by those whose only goal is to seize & feed upon your weakness & manipulate you into working against not just your bicameral colleagues, but against Michiganders writ large.
(15/17)
And even more significant than that, Karen Whitsett you violated the trust of the oaths we take to serve our fellow Michiganders.
You served nothing & nobody save for your fragile ego, corrupt heart, & sunken, deranged soul. Nothing.
(14/17)
You might think you’re “the most powerful woman in Michigan,” but in fact, you are the weakest one—because with great power comes great responsibility.
You are neither powerful nor responsible.
You violated the trust of your colleagues.
(13/17)
Well, we found your wrench, mangled & busted like you are, & threw it out.
The MiLeg #MajorityForThePeople kept working *for* the People.
All you got was an epic public temper tantrum & 15 minutes of hollow fame.
(12/17)
…good public policy happen or help make it happen
than they are in the vainglorious exercise of getting the credit for it. (Though it is nice when both happen.)
And that is why the grownups in the building continued doing the work despite you trying to throw a wrench in it.
(11/17)
…benefit the Michiganders we work for, which is—*checks notes*—ALL of them.
You might think you’ve hurt the legislature or more specifically, prevented colleagues from having their names on a PA. You haven’t though, because there are a bunch of folks who are more interested in seeing…
(10/17)
legislation that at some point you allegedly supported.
While you were sitting on your couch or wherever preparing for a media junket & a “victory lap,” the state Senate was at work doing their jobs & upholding their oaths of office to pass the possible—legislation that would…
(9/17)
to the state House months ago.
Some of those policies are ones that at some point, you have said you wanted to see happen.
Perhaps you are just as much of a liar as you claim the Speaker is.
You’re definitely ineffective & uncaring since you couldn’t even be bothered to help advance…

Policies that Michiganders have asked for. Many of them not just “bipartisan” policies, but in reality, nonpartisan.
How much more, you ask?
Something to the tune of close to 250 bills that were left on the table when you chose to shirk your responsibilities.
Many of which were sent…
(7/17)
•The change in the statute of limitations for the survivors of sexual assault (many of whom were children when violated)
And many other significant policies that if signed into law would improve the lives of Michiganders in meaningful, long-lasting (& possibly multigenerational) ways.
(6/17)
•Preventing hazardous toxic waste from coming into our state & transported through our communities
•Laws that would compel companies that cause pollution to pay for the cost of polluting
•More than 10 criminal justice reform bills including eliminating prison gerrymandering
(5/17)
•Data privacy protections & other consumer protections
•Community Violence Intervention funding
•Policies aimed at eliminating environmental apartheid
•The police improvement & community trust bill package
(4/17)
•Economic justice bills like lowering the usurious interest rates on pay day loans
•Policies that improve maternal health & reduce often preventable maternal & infant death especially for Black & Brown people
•A bunch of bills to help lower healthcare costs & improve public health
(3/17)
•The Michigan Voting Rights Act & other elections-related policies that protect voters & preserve democracy
•Government transparency
•Tobacco-free kids bills
•Water affordability
•Minimum staffing ratios for firefighters, electricians, & plumbers & many other worker protections policies (2/17)
A post Lame Duck 2024🧵:
An open letter to the IrREParable Karen Quitsett (Whitsett):
Cue the slow clap.
👏🏾 👏🏾 👏🏾 👏🏾 👏🏾
Congratulations on being the individual who (by your dereliction of duty) prevented the people of Michigan from having the following things sooner rather than later:
(1/17)
So the official time is about 4 hours from the time of this posting, but Happy Winter Solstice!
Welcome Yule! ❄️
Say it louder for the people in the back. 🗣️
We have more work to do, but we will get it done.
This was a team effort. There was no way I was letting this bill part of the #MIMomnibus die. And my favorite part: presiding over its passage as our #StateOfBirthJustice partners were in the gallery, who hung in there in-person for 29 hours during mileg Senate session to see it get passed.
And thanks to @stephwhitemi.bsky.social for the comment alerting me to the error on Jeff Irwin’s handle in the original post.
Take 2: Thanks to Sen. Jeff Irwin for hearing #MIFLOC in committee today & to colleagues for voting it out to the full chamber. Grateful to #MotheringJustice, @michleague.bsky.social & so many other state & nat’l partners.
Let’s finally get Paid Family & Medical Leave in Michigan for Michiganders.

If you’re wondering why your kids are placing a white crayon on the window sill, flushing ice cubes down the toilet, & wearing their PJs inside out tonight, it just may be because they are engaging in the ritual of invoking the Snow Day Fairy ❄️🧚♂️.
