Love that they still have carpeting. Can bring TN to Scotland, but it’s still Scotland in the end - cold and damp lol

Is it just me or has Lothian buses become entirely unreliable and unpredictable? So many ghost buses, entirely impossible to plan any kind of travel. I miss my bike - and wish there was a cargo bike that fit 3 not tiny kids

Capitalising on — & capitulating to — UK Conservative-stoked culture wars.

Motorists frustrated with road condition, rising traffic and congestion. Frustration & jealously, along with motonormativity, are a powerful combination.

So while cycling (& demand) are growing, easy target for fiscal cuts.

We’re looking for two new Reserve Managers to join our conservation team. Our West area stretches from important urban greenspaces in Glasgow to the rugged Argyll coast, while in the North you’ll oversee the Trust’s stunning Orkney reserves, Ben Mor Coigach and others.

More ire should be directed at the Tories for not following through last time. I’m so happy the legislation finally happened. I think there should be more coverage on how this traumatises families though - it’d make the playground convos a lot easier. “Why did you move?” becomes a loaded q.

When the Tories nearly did this, our LL “no fault” evicted us, a family w/3 young kids. In August. We’re still scarred from that; it impacted us in so many large and small ways. We left for Scotland as couldn’t imagine ever going through that again.

Oh was it snowing on Sunday and beach weather now on Tuesday? “Beach weather” is doing some heavy lifting for this former Floridian but when in Scotland…

I can’t imagine that what’s there now is at all accessible tbh. I can barely walk holding my kid’s hand, not convinced any mobility aids are well served! Did they add that middle cobble, too? Frankly, just pedestrianise old and new towns. With a bike lane. Maybe some buses, too

I’m here all the time and there’s barely any cars! And it’s always packed with pedestrians. Is that what they did? It predates us being here

And <12s can’t get a vaccine privately nor have children under 7 ever been offered one by the NHS or otherwise. Like why no basic, opt-in protection for kids? It’s wildly irresponsible

New State of the Game When it comes to sports, going for gold should be genderless.

Except that the invention of women’s sport is off the back of women beating men. Whenever that happens in a mixed gender setting, women get segregated off to their own spaces - so maybe what we’re doing is protecting men’s egos. Receipts: www.yesmagazine.org/issue/ending...

As an accented person w/citizenship, let me also add in whatever weird biases come into this too. Is it everyone getting carded or is it another accent thing? Add in skin colour too? Just honestly leave the free museums out of it - there’s been enough degradation of the public square as is.

Cycle infrastructure in Edinburgh. Maybe some cool bike tunnels to level out the hills 🥰

Same, same. And now we’re a whole family who bikes. Honestly life changing

Sure but also the infected blood scandal, the postmaster scandal, the cladding scandal, “let the bodies pile high”… it’s cool that accountability is happening somewhere but it shouldn’t make up for lack of accountability everywhere else

Voi bike handles on the pavement

Voi bike handles on the pavement

Flashing red light means the battery is loose? There’s a lot of inherent knowledge assumed!

Conclusion- cheap,
made getting around super easy today, really wish our built environment was safer or that e-bikes could do 20 mph too. Didn’t enjoy getting seasick 🥺

Would ride again in a pinch

A voi bike handlebar at Picardy place with my black glove hand

Really punishes you going >25 kph, which I get but doesn’t feel safe in some environments (Dean Bridge) and makes a janky (nauseous) ride if you regularly ride faster (thanks Zwift)

The large frame is better on cobbles but a lot harder for me to break

The slow pick up is dangerous at intersections

Voi bike handles in front of the Kings Buildings sign at the University of Edinburgh campus, with my black gloved hand

Today I did a Voi bike day in Edinburgh #edtravcyc
My thoughts:

Very convenient when it turns out at 11 pm we don’t have a spare tube and I need to go NW to S to E on a Sunday

The smaller frame is easier to brake! But makes me v nauseous!

The intense speed limiter…

The Best Tactics for Tackling Speeders Drivers who exceed speed limits are the cause of about one-third of all crash deaths in the US. To slow them down and save lives, cities have several effective tools.

"The most important lesson about local speed mitigation tactics is that they save lives; researchers don’t doubt effectiveness. Even better, many residents are eager to see them implemented. The missing link: policymakers courageous enough to do the right thing." www.bloomberg.com/news/article...

Books are being challenged in Scottish schools. Librarians fear a 'chilling effect' on freedom of speech Dozens of complaints about reading material in school libraries have been received, with campaigners warning that "book bans" could increase.

Worried about this MAGA style book censorship happening in our schools.

“some librarians told The Ferret they are “thinking twice” about putting potentially controversial books on display, concerned that they could face organised online campaigns and doxxing.”

And the lack of vaccine access for kids u12, and those u7 who’ve never been offered. Or cleaning the air! Like absolutely no policy review here at all - it’s as if it literally doesn’t exist for them. Would be interesting to see how often KS has even said “covid” since being PM

Reminder that "jaywalking" was literally made up by american car manufacturers to shift the blame for accidents from drivers to pedestrians. "Jay" was a slang term meaning "idiot" or "rube".
