It’s chilly, good to see that quay has its jacket on.

I just spent an evening in Alphen aan den Rijn. Looked for directions to a nearby restaurant. 8 minutes drive, 7 minutes walk or 3 minutes by bike. The way it should be! So those who have to drive will do, but everyone else has better, more obvious and safe alternatives.
21h passes… I can only assume you are en route. Or as the French say… en route?
Off road bike path through a nature reserve
Shared space in a town
Segregated cycle path by a main road
Lovely mix of cycle routes in south Netherlands.
Is it better to spend taxpayer money to encourage more driving, or to use that money and invest in sustainable transport so we’re less exposed to volatile fuel prices?
Can we also make our supply chains more sustainable, so fuel prices don’t hike up the cost of everything else?
Every day on Mosshead Rd!
Same people complaining about cyclists dressing up like they’re on the Tour de France, but also complaining when not wearing helmets!
My e-bike motor cuts out at 17mph. For safety.
I’ve been thinking about this - the UK should have escalated fuel duty as planned over the last 20-odd years, which would allow for faster fuel efficiency and transition to alternatives, but also the ability to cut fuel duty in times of crisis and keep inflation down.
Don’t give them ideas…
True!
Ironically the Tour de France has a similar carbon impact as F1.
Or maybe not so ironic, given some of the sponsors…
This is from my garmin watch after a couple of small glasses of wine the evening before. First 3-4 hours of sleep are high “stress”.
Maybe it’s just getting older…
Imagine having a platform to the nation, and using it to admit to being dangerous and unskilled.
That sucks, and can stick with you for days/weeks.
Also, that street looks like you could fit 7-8 cars across, so much space for alternatives to driving!
Frogs = mad shaggers.
My pond needs to be moved and actually finished, but that’s not stopped them… will need to wait for the baby frogs to vacate now!
Given the state of public health in the west of Scotland, Glasgow will see even bigger health cost savings.
See also the M8 in Glasgow.
Trams, bikes, gondolas!
We only get 20 million barrels a day through Hormuz, so it’s ACTUALLY a whole twenty days of “normality”. Nearly 3 whole weeks!
This sounds like a job for @urbantruth.bsky.social
The consultation includes a removal option, but intentionally makes it look bad or foolish. However, removing a motorway cutting through a city centre is the ONLY viable option!
GoBike supports Remove the M8 - a grassroots campaign to replace Glasgow's urban motorway with a ground-level road for people. Support the REMOVE Option in the M8 Woodside viaducts consultation (deadline: 25 March 2026). Visit: removethem8.org.uk

The vast majority of my Bearsden neighbours have astroturfed monstrosities of back gardens. Fuck nature, eh?
Or freeze (create a floor price for) fuel prices, so when global oil price drops, duty increases. Then ramp up fuel prices in a structured way over a decade, to make electrification and active/public transport the obvious choice. And invest in those alternatives using the fuel duty boost.
Cleaning sandstone will often lead to erosion - it’s hard to remove the dirt without also removing the protective external layer that forms. Of course, “it’s more complicated than that”…

Totally - but the financing point still stands. The bulk of spending is in the 2-3 years of construction, opex is low. So a 1% point increase in bank rate increases LCOE by ~10%.
I’m a supporter of renewables! Cheaper than new build gas plants, and provide energy independence.
Ironically, oil and gas price spikes impact bank rates, which are critical for renewable energy projects (as these are high capex, so require more financing than e.g. a gas plant). So we’re doubly exposed!
About 8000 miles on the back of our cargo bike!
Energy intensity of production. Norway is a much cleaner producer - uses more power from shore (which is mainly hydro), less flaring, and less mature fields which are better producers.
