I've held my tongue, mostly, all week, but honestly - it has truly shaken my faith in a lot of people I know how many people I've seen share ChatGPT images these last couple of weeks. I've been so sick of seeing AI in every poster, event notification, meme, post, everywhere. Schools, galleries, cinemas, cafes, businesses - nothing screams "I just simply do not care" more than these stupid, regurgitated lifeless images. They are not promotion, they are DEmotion. But to have seen teachers sharing these images, either from idle curiosity or however it started, and then often sharing surprised or even worse, positive messages with it is honestly, truly maddening. So apparently no one cares about the blatant theft of AI, the environmental impact, the en-shittification of every website and software ever with forced AI integration, the de-skilling of the workforce and students and learners and creatives. So how about this: We were succeeding. The reason there's been such a push to do these ChatGPT "caricatures" is because artists were winning. They were poisoning the well - there is just so much AI crap there now that the machines have started eating themselves. So how do you circumvent that? You get everyone to willing offer up their personal details, images, life stories. Feed the machine. And by goodness did everyone jump at the chance, just to have pictures of themselves with upside down floating violins and warped ghost children blankly grinning at them. What is worst, what is truly the worst of all, that everyone seems to miss - the people funding AI, the people so, SO, desperate for this technology to succeed are the tech billionaires (and now almost trillionaires counting Bezos and Musk) that are then taking every cent and pouring it back into fascist governments and movements, because those are the extreme Right Wing policies they believe will drive the aura of fear and deprivation and lack of education that will create the perfect storm for people to believe they…
Art, music, writing, journalism, opinion pieces, criticism, athletics, acting - so much creativity, joy and most important, important core human experiences - we are someone being told and CONVINCED that they are boring and redundant and tedious and NEED to be replaced by a bunch of environment destroy fascism funding machines regurgitating a bunch of half remember memories like a Donald Trump speech but somehow even less useless. I do not fear AI, I despise it - with a completely endless passion. As someone who has dedicated every moment of their life to making music accessible, sharing love and joy and showing how beautiful and perfect every moment of creation is - it is the true enemy - and even more so as it is the mask that the greatest evil of our time is wearing while it sharpens the knives at our throat. So pick up and instrument, pick up a pen - hell, hop on MSPaint and just doodle - and I guarantee you every single second of it will be far more meaningful than all the collected time spent "prompting" the hell machine. And, if you have made it this far (which I doubt anyone has because reading literacy and comprehension is dead) - know that if you have ever posted or shared a single AI thing knowingly, it has 100% completely ruined my personal opinion of you - regardless of our relationships and I am no way fearful to repeat that in person if the opportunity ever presents itself.
