A great time to re-watch Gravity
My point is that trying create the job market we want rather than live with the job market we have is a good thing to do, and efforts to make workplaces more welcoming for women to to close the gender pay gap are examples of that.
It seems similarly shaped to “nut up and take the lower pay”, which is obviously not the right way to think about the labour market.
At least it’s an election year? 😬
Working from home has been a game changer for school-age parenting. Kids can largely mind themselves for a few hours at this age, but you need to be in the same building.
It saddens me that pronatalist stuff is so right-coded, there’s heaps of left-aligned policies that would be great. People aren’t having children because raising children is tough. Make it less tough!
There’s a legit possibility that Trump does something to retreat from his mess if he can; he’s never been one to hold fast.
But it also might turn out that it’s not possible to do that.
I think the govt is hoping it will come right before the have to share scary plans.
Weak.
A massive gap is the ability to communicate hard truths publicly. I expect that some people know what’s going on behind closed doors, although I expect Luxon himself is washing around in a tub of conflicting experts’ viewpoints. Tough calls will be diluted and delayed.
Prescient of the National govt to tear down all the polices encouraging EV uptake, eh?
“Scientists say lobsters feel no pain” guardian article
Maybe I could be a lobster…
Watching Pluribus and seeing the protagonist say “I’m a very independent person” as she asked for a supermarket to be reassembled for her sole use made me rant at my wife for several minutes about how full-of-crap the character is.
(I love my wife, she accepts me as I am 😝)
Yeah I can’t remember the specific reference but “language evolved for persuading people, not for communication” is a meme I’ve been implanted with, and seems very similar. “The Red Queen” by Matt Ridley had a lot on the topic.
I like the the theory that it’s like a peacock’s tail - sexually selected rather that naturally selected, advantageous only because the next generation will prefer it too.
Hence the amount of mental energy dedicated to getting laid.
A testament to its value that we put up with it eh.

OpenClaw: curl | claude as-a-service.
Open access to the internet, open access to your valuable stuff, and easily adding new skills from open repositories is a dangerous combo and a big part of the appeal.
That said, there are inconveniences you can trade for more security that will make sense to people.
I doubt it’s one-size-fits-all
forced to accept Claude has more interiority than Marc Andreessen
I’ve done 0.4/0.5 (it just comes out as a single line in either case) and it’s a bit fragile but okay if you have a thicker frame around it.
White, but only a nozzle-width thick?
I mean as I understand it you’re basically describing model distillation?
Removing the weights would be like switching to thin cut: a travesty!
Turns out it’s a very crinkly surface
Twitter back in the day or Twitter now?
the actual reason to run it when you're using an llm is that it throws so many compile-time errors that it is very difficult to write bad code in it
Nobody’s talking about how grating these posts are
It’s hard to get up at 3:49am and celebrate it properly.
Scooby doo meme, TSMC under the mask.
I had a 2013 MacBook Pro and I loved it. I had an M1 air and I loved it.
I sweated that 2013 MBP as long as I could, but there was one more machine in between, of which we do not speak.
