The Crownless Queen is an entertaining, engrossing novel that also gives plenty of food for thought for the historian. It flows beautifully through the story of the marriage of Jeanette and her prince. I loved every word!
Episode 90 is here!
It was an absolute pleasure to chat with Michael Jecks about the ins and outs of the often-overlooked First Crusade

Now that's a captive audience! Sorry, couldn't resist. Well done!
Definitely. That's statistics for you. If you survived childhood, your odds of a long life improved tenfold. Women had the added risk of childbirth and men faced war. But many did make old age - even without antibiotics
Elizabeth Chadwick also did a wonderful trilogy on Eleanor.
She was around 80 when she crossed the Pyrenees to select one of her granddaughters as a bride for Louis of France. Was in her 70s when she travelled to Germany to arrange Richard's release. Pretty impressive
It would make a fabulous tv show!
On this day in History: 1204
Death at Fontevrault of Eleanor of Aquitaine, Queen (dowager) of England. Duchess of Aquitaine in her own right, her incredible life included two marriages, a crusade, 10 children, rebellion and imprisonment...
