Ever wondered what the Hadean ocean looked like? πππ
Come work with us on π§ͺsilicate weathering experimentsπ§ͺ simulating the geochemistry of the first ocean and be part of a large consortium investigating the origin of life #prelife.

Happy to announce that π₯³ Sasha Turchyn π₯³ will give a keynote talk in our Goldschmidt session 12f!
Come and join us!
Can't wait to chat with you about clays, authigenesis, silicates and marine element cycles βΊοΈ

Great work @mfgeochemistry.bsky.social ! So happy to see it published!

Thinking of coming to the #Goldschmidt2025 conference? And working on marine #silicate weathering and reverse weathering?
Then consider submitting an abstract to our session 12f!

Just out:
Our Goldschmidt 2025 session on marine silicate alteration and impact on marine element cycles was just accepted!
If you have exciting new data on all (!!!) involved elements, consider submitting an abstract.

Hi, your name appeared also under the Ocean/Atmosphere keywords. Only physics? I'm in ocean geochemistry, but also working on marine Carbon Dioxide Removal, if that counts as (geo)engineering π If yes, happy to be added to the list

Hi, would be great, if you could add me to the list!
Thanks!

New paper out with Paul Vosteen and Florian Scholz (amongst others) on Fe redox shuttling and uptake by #silicate minerals on the Namibian coast:

Wonder why this pic shows up when inserting the linkπ€·
Exactly. Global fluxes are not quantified (yet) or based on a very small data set.

Without wanting to brag, but I showed the direct correlation between 'natural' enhanced mineral addition (flood event), dissolution and clay precipitation in this 'natural' analogue at the Peruvian coast:
www.nature.com/articles/s41...
Yes, that's exactly my point and what I'm trying to stress (warn...) in all my OAE talks. RW occurs naturally in marine sediments and can be triggered by mineral dissolution.
Next to Si, aluminum availability, pH, reactive surfaces are crucial.
So happy to announce that our #PRELIFE consortium was awardedπ₯³
In one of 16 projects on the emergence of life, I will investigate the onset of silicate weathering and its coupling to ocean chemistry.
For the silica lovers: special emphasis on reverse weathering,π
