With my novel EDGE PIECES on the horizon, I'm starting a newsletter. Please have a look at amaliagladhart.com and consider subscribing. Jigsaw puzzles, cats, climate, thoughts on art--who gets to make it, who decides what it means. Sometimes I get a little help. @regalhouse.bsky.social

I’m just spitballing here but…what if the 4000 podcaster & book reviewers & profile writers falling all over each other re FAMESICK picked another book.

Nothing against that book. I’m sure it’s dishy & fun. But imagine 4000 books each getting 1 piece of media instead of the other way around.

Hmmm...so many alt lit journals are doing great work with no $$$ or paid staff or advertising or revenue. I'm not sure that I, a fiction writer, would heed this advice. It's reasonable in theory. But in practice-

it is so completely irrelevant to the whole creative endeavor. I want to launch every article about writing and AI directly into the sun.

Spent this week drafting a short story. I spent Mon-Wed unspooling ideas. I woke up today with a sick feeling of 'what am I supposed to do with all this?' I wrote & wrote & I got to something! There is no greater high. GETTING TO SOMETHING is the thing. The only thing.

Anyway, fucking fuck AI.

Instead of asking chatgpt, why not ask a librarian? You'll get real answers and they won't tell you to kill yourself.

The President is openly threatening genocide. A crime against humanity. He must be removed from office.

The 25th Amendment must be invoked. If not, Congress has to do our damn job. Speaker Johnson, call us into session. War powers & impeachment. Remove this man from office.

As president of @authorsabb.bsky.social, I stand with all 10 toes down against this first of its kind federal book banning bigoted bullsh*t bill.

It's a Trojan Horse for the federal gov't to weasel its way into our classrooms, and decide what YOU and YOUR kids can read.

In short, I hate it.

The correct thing for someone in this situation to do is attend a Seder they’ve been invited to as a guest and listen respectfully, or leave us the fuck alone, not to *lead your own* as a political stunt to show how much you care about Jews

I’m also well aware that all the short fiction & non-fiction I’ve published online since I started writing long-form pieces in 1998, were definitely scraped too, yet don’t count.

Yours, too. Everyone’s.

These companies should all be shuttered. Which is a nice way of saying launched into the sun.

The government’s effort to collect the names and phone numbers of Jewish people on campus as it investigates antisemitism has upset some people who worry about how the information will be used.

Ursula K. Le Guin — 2026 Prize for Fiction

it is absolutely thrilling to watch nominations come in for the Le Guin Prize but there's one thing I want to say one more time: middle grade and YA novels are eligible for this prize! I would really love to see more nominations come from those categories
