I despise with the heat of a thousand suns the way I have to be suspicious of all art I see now while I investigate it's authenticity, because this couldn't be more diametrically opposed to the state of mind one should be in while taking in all art.

This is your reminder that it's been ten months since the assassination of Melissa Hortman, her husband and her dog, and there hasn't been even a hint of justice for her family, friends or colleagues.

A lot of attitudes that sound rational actually hurt us.

I used to think this was just people making mistakes.

After a long time seeing how propaganda and disinformation work on social media, I'm more inclined now to see these things as intentionally cultivated by the malevolent. Some of the time.

This is the thing, if "academia" wanted to stop this, we could easily tomorrow. Over 3 incorrect references? Rejected and forbidden to submit next year.

The purpose of a system is what it does!

One big political divide is between people who believe germs cause disease and people who believe Those People cause disease. It was pretty evident right away during the pandemic

European friend asked how I'm able to afford living in America and I said "easy, I'm boycotting everything" and then I ate a single grape.

I love how people in the US says AOC can't win in 2028, but they keep putting her name next to other candidates as their choice. Sometimes as president with a "supporting" vice president, or as vice president.

Come on. Who are you trying to fool?

AOC will be president.

Winners ignore the haters.

Pa. court recognizes ‘reproductive autonomy’ as a right, strikes down ban on public funding for abortion In a 4-3 ruling, the Commonwealth Court found that abortion access is a fundamental right guaranteed by the Pennsylvania Constitution.

Some good news here in the smart and humane state of Pennsylvania.

Reminds me of reviews I'm navigating where the reviewers claim a middle ground between us & their opinion is important to implement in the paper.

But actually that's the worst idea. If there's 2 sides: I'm a side. Anything else is an untrue reflection. The literature deserves non mainstream views.

The DOJ was created to increase the capacity for federal prosecutions during Reconstruction esp. those to be brought under the newly enacted KuKlux Klan Act.

Now the DOJ is being used to prosecute a storied civil rights organization whose central mission has been to expose & dismantle the Klan.

I really think this is a strategic question, with long-term problems, which may confuse people who think I should pick a side.

Are Dems playing chess?

I'm seeing a lot of smugness over something that may lead to more gerrymandering and more balkanization.

I think we should be leery of that.

But yeah, right now, unilaterally disarming the Democratic Party would likely give fascists like Chuck Schumer what they want.

I don't know.

The anti-fascist take is that both parties are run by fascists and we should do whatever changes that.

As an American citizen; both parties are, both as ongoing criminal conspiracies and as functional subsidiaries of Likud, my enemy--not merely my opponent.

Patriots should despise both, yet we are simultaneously obliged to do entryism to both.

I'm not convinced gerrymandering doesn't entrench them.

The Democrats would be better off opposing gerrymandering if only for their own credibility.

But using it in the immediate term to show the GOP that they can be hit by it too may be reasonable in some states.

Longer-term, though, I think it's going to hurt the Dems & help the GOP.

I think you're both mostly right.

As much as possible, we should be anti-gerrymander.

But I can be anti-war and still fight back if attacked.

Right now, so much of the country has GOP state governments that gerrymandering serves the GOP overall, over the next several cycles.

And...

This.

You can bitch about voters all you want. You can bitch *at* voters all you want. But it is on politicians to make good policy, and it is also on politicians to make themselves credible to voters.
