Romance novel male lead: [somehow a full six inches taller than the female lead and accompanied by constant descriptions of how strong and masculine he is]
Me, with familiar disappointment: Oh. Yes.
20 years ago we were suing teenagers for millions of dollars because they were torrenting a single Metallica album and now billionaires are demanding the free right to every work in history, so that they can re-sell it.
The law only ever serves capital.
But I think a lot of people, myself very included, still have so much nostalgia for the early writing and the lore potential.
So, SUPER excited to see what Overwatch: Declassified - An Official History does with all that. Just ordered!
Everything after that point seemed like the writing had been de-prioritized. And OW2's paywalling model spoke to Blizzard's real priorities at this point in a way that seems to have killed a lot of the enthusiasm for the franchise.
this is coming from someone who has written an absurd amount of fanfic on the subject attempting to do exactly this. Arrive at a cohesive story that compels like the potential of the original 2016 shorts through like... Retribution.
