Today I got a wonderful invitation to give a keynote at a conference in South America which I would love to accept but the conference overlaps with one in Eastern Europe that I have already committed to giving a keynote at. What a shame.

Important news for academics in the US. Recently I attended a webinar hosted by AMS but still have having difficulty making my slides, done in beamer, disability accessible. There should be just a few commands one inserts www.insidehighered.com/news/governm...
Today I am giving an exam in my Humanitarian Logistics and Healthcare class @isenbergumass.bsky.social and we are meeting early at 8:15AM ET. I am bringing both Atkins cider donuts and a variety of muffins.
Delighted to receive this certificate and very excited about #IFORS2026 in Vienna this summer. I will present both the paper below, co-authored with my @isenbergumass.bsky.social PhD student Samira Samadi, and U. of Richmond Professor @denizbesik.bsky.social, and give an invited talk on Women in OR.
I had a wonderful time being interviewed by a great #orms colleague for her book today.
The latest issue of @economist.com.
It's happening www.nytimes.com/2026/04/20/b... and I mentione dthis in my @informs.bsky.social #2026Analytics presentation last Tuesday meetings.informs.org/wordpress/an...
Thank you so much, @drartanalytics.bsky.social!
Stunning!
So much for the theory. Iran should allow fertiliser to pass through the Strait of Hormuz; America should not blockade urea shipments from Iran. Tragically, neither shows any inclination to do so. High petrol prices make biofuel more attractive to farmers, not less. And rich countries are in a selfish mood. Failure to act thus looks baked in. In the face of an avoidable disaster, that is shameful.
Fair but depressing conclusion from @economist.com - we could avoid some of the worst of the hunger, but we won’t

Our integrated war risk insurance paper with Professor Borys Kormych + my @isenbergumass.bsky.social PhD student: onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1111/...
Illuminating article: www.reuters.com/markets/comm... "The pace of recovery will depend not just on diplomacy between Washington and Tehran, but also on logistics, tanker insurance availability, freight rates and the willingness of shipowners to risk the passage."
Today, in Massachusetts, we celebrate Patriots' Day, and, hence, we have a holiday @umassamherst.bsky.social. It is also the day of the Boston Marathon. Good luck to all those who are taking part with thanks to those who work hard on ensuring safety annanagurney.blogspot.com/2019/03/fabu...
Luckily leaves are starting to appear on trees in @townofamherst.bsky.social so deer that seem to love our yard can eat them rather than the arborvitae which sustained them over our harsh, long winter.
Friday I had no meetings so it was a wonderful start to some intense #orms research on wicked problems that might also necessitate advances in methodologies. I'm very stubborn when it comes to solving problems that I'm extremely passionate about. Very grateful for disciplines that value research.
This is so sad. Lovely that you were such good friends.
Beautiful day in @townofamherst.bsky.social for the reopening of the Amherst Farmers Market! Great to see previous vendors and new ones and even a hungry goat. We went overboard buying baked items, cheese and fresh produce. Saw many friends and made new ones. I love this time of the year!
“This logistical power of the Gulf rests on the control of vast vertically integrated networks linking ports, warehousing, inland transport, free zones and food processing.”

These are evacuation guidelines on trains in Ukraine or what travel looks like when your neighbor is Russia that has repeatedly and deliberately targeted passenger trains with kamikaze drones.
It's a national suicide. I don't see any other way of looking at what's happening inside nearly every institution. American exceptionlism—if it ever existed at all—was our ability to create knowledge and culture. And we're destroying that capacity at scale.
Tack så mycket!
Nice of @informs.bsky.social to issue these. Thank you!
I mentioned getting tariff refunds on illegally collected tariffs in my presentation at @informs.bsky.social #2026Analytics this past Tuesday www.reuters.com/legal/govern...
Why are governments so completely spineless when it comes to the social responsibilities of companies? It creates vicious dynamics, all of which come back to then bite those same governments. It’s a losing strategy for democracies fully five minutes after they sign these kinds of deals.
This is very meaningful and great to see. Thank you to Sweden for supporting Ukraine consistently and meaningfully. I have lived in both Stockholm and Gothenburg and the connections (even with the respective beautiful blue and gold flags) are very special.
