We asked participants how close they felt towards various groups of refugees and found that individuals with higher levels of empathy (empathic concern and perspective taking) perceived others as closer.
We found that higher levels of empathy were linked to more favorable views of refugees and pro-refugee policies, such as the admission of refugees, their access to social benefits, and the granting of work permits.

For this study, we developed a measure of COVID-19 conspiracy beliefs with three items. It was implemented in a panel wave in summer/ fall 2020, and is available in the standard edition of the GESIS Panel.
We find only small effects of individual need for cognitive closure, but strong effects for pre-pandemic political trust and concurrent crisis trust in political and medical institutions.
