The truth here is so ever relevant, is so simple and profound. I think I might pop it into my next book. Sharing yet again:

I have a happier puppy (5 weeks old) who needs a family with a yard. I'm fostering her for now, but I can't keep her here in an apartment with a post-stroke 80 year old.

That right there is the final nail in the coffin. But, let’s say (by some miracle), conservatives manage to win the Senate, too. Well, then the clock starts. Maybe some reactors come online at some point…in the 2050s. At best.

Let’s say (optimistically) that conservatives (whether it be Coalition or something else) do manage it in 2031. Greens are still likely to run the crossbench. What then? Opposition to nuclear is their raison d'être. So…

Liberals are the larger share of the (now defunct) Coalition. There’s just no way that Nats can cut a deal for nuclear with this government, even if Liberals were on board (which they may not be, now). Also…

Now, the coalition has fallen apart over this issue. Liberals see that their nuclear position was deeply unpopular in Australia. I can see how Nats are different: they’re rural and represent miners. But…

Nuclear is dead in Australia. First, it’s illegal. To legalize it, advocates would need to capture the House and the Senate, which won’t happen in this decade. But…

This is all of Australia's (NEM + WA) energy mix (12 month average). Renewables just surpassed 40% & coal is heading down towards 50% (at 52% currently). Because this is a rolling average, the current energy mix (annualized) is already below 50%. But we'll see it in the rolling average soon enough.

They need any party with at least 3 seats. That's every party except the Greens. And there's still a small chance that Libs hit 170 and Greens get to 2.

Since this has escaped containment and is reaching people unfamiliar with my work, no, this is not "pollyanna bullshit."

As I said elsewhere — and write daily — things are bad and not getting better any time soon.

The point is that the fight is worth it. And part of that fight is in the courts.
