Think about it: It’s taken him only seven weeks to fuck up our economy and turn us into an enemy of the free world.

Pretty impressive.

After 1,000 National Park Service employees were abruptly fired on February 14, staff banded together to signal “dire distress” by draping an upside-down American flag from the 3,000-foot summit of Yosemite’s iconic El Capitan monolith.

Never before has there been such a gang of Republican politicians so willing to sell their souls for their own reelection at the expense of the rule of law and the health, safety, security and freedom of their children, grandchildren, constituents and country.

Some people saw how beautiful this world is and decided to descrate it anyways.

We'll never stop fighting for wildlife and wild places. No matter who is in office. No matter what the odds are. The stakes are just too high to surrender. Our world is worth protecting.

Opinion | Tenderness as an Act of Resistance (Gift Article) They are trying to overwhelm us and force us to look away. But we must not.

It’s only been three weeks, but already I am exhausted by my own fury. I emailed Kate DiCamillo and asked for help. www.nytimes.com/2025/02/10/o...

Opinion | Let’s Hear It for the Coyote in Chicago Hiding in the Produce Aisle (Gift Article) The wild creatures who have adapted to our ways are adept at remaining out of sight. But they are here, and they will always be with us.

If we won’t make room for the wildness we live within, how can we possibly hope to save the wilderness? www.nytimes.com/2025/01/27/o...

A bird's-eye view of a former Auschwitz II-Birkenau camp showing a wide dirt pathway flanked by parallel rows of barbed-wire fences. Groups of visitors walk along the path, surrounded by the remnants of brick structures and barracks, now reduced to foundations. Green grass contrasts with the somber history of the site, as the path leads toward a guard tower in the distance.

Auschwitz was at the end of a long process. It did not start from gas chambers.

This hatred was gradually developed by humans. From ideas, words, stereotypes & prejudice through legal exclusion, dehumanization & escalating violence... to systematic and industrial murder.

Auschwitz took time.

Auschwitz is liberated | January 27, 1945 | HISTORY The Soviet Red Army enters Auschwitz, Poland, and liberates the survivors of the network of concentration camps—and finally reveals to the world the depth of the horrors perpetrated there.

A grim but essential memory: 80 years ago today Auschwitz was liberated. That there was an Auschwitz to liberate is unspeakably tragic. . .
