A triangle subdivided into four smaller triangles with labels reading "Good", "Fast", "Cheap" and "You Can Only Pick Two"

I used to keep a variation of this triangle posted at my desk. Over the years we have pushed increasingly to the Fast & Cheap options with expected outcomes. LLMs have only made this worse IMHO for many of the reasons you've laid out here. Great post.

Some say the world will end in fire
Some say ice
From what I've tasted of desire
I hold with those who favour fire
But if it had to perish twice
I think I know enough of hate
To say that for destruction ice
is also great
And would suffice

18 Times One Person's Calm Reaction Prevented a Global Disaster History often pivots on the decisions made by single individuals in moments of extreme pressure. While panic might seem like the natural response to potential catastrophe, some remarkable people have ...

Because it will undoubtedly get lost in the quagmire, a big thanks should go out to Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Field Marshal Asim Munir who have provided Trump a nice way to save face while not plunging the world into absolute destructive chaos.

Gentle reminder to US service members. You’re just as culpable for war crimes as the person directing you.

Refuse orders that would have you commit war crimes.

On this "blessed" day we remember that time Jesus finally decided f*%k these guys, lied to his disciples that he died on the cross and pissed off to find peace and quiet in the dying embers that once was the Garden of Eden.

Happy Friday all!

There are many "dead" worlds in our solar system but this one is the only one filled with the dead.

Welcome to the cemetery Earth. Weep for those who went not by their own actions and learn lessons from those who coveted the grave.

This graveyard once was splendid but now joins its tenants.

Perfect time to grab a pint, put your feet up and watch the chaos ensue. I think the kids call it reality TV unplugged. Surprisingly enthralling.

Take control of a massive reserve of oil that is economically not worth extracting but then start a war that massively increases the cost of oil and now the U.S. has a potentially significant income stream for the "low" cost of more death & destruction in the world.

I just assumed he was having them gold leafed and would then have them placed along the top of the fencing surrounding the White House.

Amazon hopes to replace 600,000 US workers with robots, according to leaked documents They’re taking our jobs.

"Once they work out how to do this profitably, it will spread to others, too,”... if Amazon achieves its automation goal, “one of the biggest employers in the United States will become a net job destroyer, not a net job creator.”

I suspect a lot of places are working towards this. Speaking from an IT background I suspect that’s part of why companies love AI. Their hope is to eliminate the need for IT (amongst other roles/departments) and just have AI do it all.

The rich get richer and we all watch as they do it.

Two billion people don’t have safe drinking water: what does this really mean for them? For billions, it can mean hours spent collecting water. For almost a million, it means dying from disease.

Well who'd of thought it. More people = more material consumption. Less people = less material consumption.

Still, it's a good article highlighting that measuring materials doesn't give a good indication of the impact of using said materials.

Thirsty AI data centres are coming to Canada, with little scrutiny or oversight | CBC News Canada is poised to join the data centre boom. But as such projects face greater scrutiny around the world, there is little debate here about what this will mean for the country’s water.

“Life on this planet is sustained by water. It is not sustained by data. We don't need data the way we need water,” Barnwell said.
