So now we have influencers who have little to zero actual capability or skill in what they influence on. Twitter didn’t select for the most fashionable man to make the main character, they selected for the guy who did Twitter dunks that led to engagement

The algorithms aren’t selecting for excellence or novelty. They are selecting for cheap (don’t have to pay the creator) and controversial (the menswear guy got famous by being mean to republicans on twitter)
I think it also speaks to the new nature of notoriety under algorithms. In the past, style was something principals did. You saw a pic of Bruce Springsteen in rolling stone and said, I want my jeans or watch cap to look like that. Now you get fashion “advice” from accounts who won’t even post face.
And more men should be aware that putting on the uniform of aging downwardly mobile hipsters sends messages! Messages you might not want to send to potential life or business partners. Most would be better served wearing the dominant upper class uniform here of slacks and sportswear quarter zips.
This look conveys neither wealth nor confidence nor actual style. And it’s much closer to workwear (that should die?) than tailoring
The two commenters most responsible for forging the current new sauce less swag less “menswear” paradigm reside in oakland, which is a fashion wasteland
I think it’s game over for well-written English language prose. Because of AI, nobody will be able to write it, fewer people will care about reading it, and less of it will get created. And honestly?
Intricate writing’s not just for old people — it’s good for society.
