UK navy foiled Russian submarines surveying undersea cables, defence minister says John Healey says warship and aircraft forced Russia to abandon activity in North Sea in month-long operation

UK MoD says Russian subs surveying subsea cables were deterred by UK naval forces.

Good to see active monitoring and signaling.

But calling it successful deterrence after a month-long operation feels like a stretch. Time matters survey ops.

AIS flag hopping for the top 200 worst shadow fleet ships, September to October.

The "pivot to The Gambia" of the shadow fleet is increasing day by day.

But also "pivot to Sierra Leone".

Initially, I thought this was "just" another case of false flagging, unbeknown to the registry.

But something in common about both these nations, causes me to think, that it's not the case.

If Houthi were intentionally involved, you’re right. Even though, rarely, subsea cable vandalism and theft occurred in the past, sub-state/militia would be a new types of actors.
