Does anyone know what happened with the #NEH Public Scholars program for 2025-26? Notification letters were supposed to be sent out April 15, but it seems like that never happened. Was that entire round of applications simply scrubbed without any explanation whatsoever?

For all those who’ve started to write a book but never finished, rest assured that it is a time honored tradition. Here’s a medieval manuscript on hand-to-hand combat that was illustrated, but never written. Musée de Cluny, Paris.

The AHA has released a statement in support of the Smithsonian Institution, the target of the recent EO, “Restoring Truth and Sanity to American History.” This order “egregiously misrepresents the work of the Smithsonian Institution” and “completely misconstrues the nature of historical work.” 🗃️

I just finished „In the Forest of No Joy“. Being no expert on the Congo or French colonial history, I was impressed by this piece of scholarship which truly makes for grim reading with more than 20,000 forced African laborers dying during the construction of the Congo-Océan railway.1/

The Ten Best History Books of 2024 Our favorite titles of the year resurrect forgotten histories and examine how the United States ended up where it is today

Should academic historians be concerned that only 2 of the 10 “best history books” of 2024 were written by academic historians?

Later this spring, I am teaching a course on the history of modern Paris. I'd like to do something on the arcades, and use some of Benjamin's work on the subject, but don't even know where to begin in terms of choosing portions to assign.

Anyone out there have experiences they could share? Thanks!

I’m so sorry. Stay strong and let me know if I can help. Though it seems this is beyond all help.
