Yesterday was orientation, today was actually field day
Only one red flag the entire day: they use fucking Echo chainsaws
I don't say this out of brand loyalty but out of experience:
Stihl or bust.

Well...
I get to go to work today. Starting a new job. Let's see how this goes. Haven't done residential tree work in a while.
Hey, at least they're trying new things at this point.
I've got two job offers lined up right now, and one company who really wants me but has to do multiple interview rounds as standard procedure.
Both secured jobs are basically equivalent. Third one pays more and is more environmental restoration than it is "tree work"
Wife is re-watching American Horror Story: Hotel at her desk
For some reason, the scenes she's watching makes me want to watch Black Mirror again.
Job offers are coming in now.
I thought the worst was going to happen when I got laid off.
Turns out I'm in a growing industry, it was just that one company having issues
Blue collar ftw, I guess? Or something
Getting callbacks this week.
6 interviews in total either scheduled or already conducted.
Guess I'm actually moving forward now.

Three callbacks total. One preliminary interview over the phone is done. One in-person interview for another company is scheduled.
I'm hoping I get the former, but the latter will still pay the bills for now.
Those were two separate events, even if I made them sound the same.
Yesterday I did the in-person evaluation for one company
Today I got a callback and preliminary interview from a different company.
Got a callback and a preliminary interview!
Had an in-person evaluation/exam for a spot on a digging crew yesterday.
Forward momentum is good.
Day 9 of No Work
Got an interview with a practical examination for a spot on a tree planting crew. That's hope.
30+ applications in elsewhere, even for employers I've worked for before and positions I've held in the past.
It's rougher than rough out here.
I'd 1,000% do this if I was employed right now.
Lmao Disneyland is hiring arborists for their resort tree care.
How y'all spend all day at your desks?
I spent 5 hours straight this morning applying for jobs, and my back feels worse than a day on a tree removal jobsite
I've got this curated list of books I'm wanting to read to learn how to write my own book
Reading fiction for research and reading fiction like I did when I was a kid are two VERY different types of reading
Less getting lost in the world, more "picking up what the author is putting down"
Are Pete Hegseth and Gavin Newsom related, or does Hate Incarnate just give the body similar features?
Because if you told me they're brothers or cousins or something, I'd have no trouble believing it.
Anarchism is only hiding from the world & living up to its critics' claims of being too utopian to be practical if people don't get that we build the world we want out of the world that exists now. And I never said support politicians so don't @ me!
Y'all the job market genuinely sucks rn
Got some leads and some applications in, and some contacts came through with some good info, but in the words of the wise: Holy hell, it's bad out here
Thanks.
And yeah, it really is.
Thank you.
I'll be okay. Just emotional right now. I thought my position was solid, but that's the mistake right there.
Welp
Just got laid off 🙃
Arguing pro-AI points in anti-AI spaces because people fundamentally refuse to argue from informed positions, and let their emotions do all the logical work instead of thr brain's logic circuits
Wait a minute.... there's some irony in there...
* I don't have "co-workers" in the traditional sense. I don't see anyone throughout my day, and 99% of communication is digital.
I used to be a crew foreman for my employer. Now I'm a data collector.
This new position has really helped me learn new things about myself, and heal from a toxic boss.
I'm getting the alone time I need*, and I'm actually mentally healing. It's great. I feel like myself again.
Excuse to enact martial law after the midterm results get announcee.
I kept seeing ads for Project Hail Mary, and thought it was interesting as a sci-fi story. I was gonna go read the book.
But if this is the author's belief of those stories, hard fucking pass.
"I put no politics or social commentary into my stories at all"
Is Andy Weir's publications just blank pages then, or....?
I find it odd in myself that I'm a certified stoner and a Certified Arborist, yet never desired to grow cannabis
Not once. Not even in my yard as a weed. Not even "for science!"
I love growing other things. I'm quite fond of strawberry plants.
But I couldn't care less about growing weed. 🤷♀️
Felt the need to add it lol. Glad someone caught the nuance.
