Any help in figuring out how to think about it?

The NEPA stuff is obviously where it gets sticky. I'm tired of seeing good landscape stewardship projects get stalled by lengthy review and litigation, esp. when those far away from the landscape are the ones intervening. But these days, it feels like an important democratic safeguard.

There's so much important stuff in there, especially funding for community wildfire preparedness and beneficial fire use, as well as the expansion of Tribal partnerships.

Not sure who of my forestry & fire network is active here these days, and there are a lot more pressing political issues right now... but I'm looking for perspectives on the Fix Our Forests Act (FOFA). Anyone have thoughts or articles to share?

Controlled burns reduce wildfire risk, but they require trained staff and funding − this could be a rough year Uncertainty from Washington along with staff and budget cuts have created turmoil for the US Forest Service’s fire management efforts.

Logging isn't a simple solution for wildfire risk. Clear-cutting can dry out soil and vegetation, potentially increasing fire risk short-term.

Managing forests well requires gathering data on how these forests are changing

Daily reading to our 2 month old. She’s growing up into a world that is so wholly unknowable to me, now, but I think that poetry and (fierce) attachment to the living world will always be vital. She is keeping me grounded, as are these poems.

the fact that people are being disappeared in the name of ""preventing antisemitism"" by a christian nationalist administration is making me nauseated and horrified in ways i cant even begin to explain

This is a very important story. It is also important to understand that this is how ICE operates. They disappear people. Family members and lawyers often cannot get information from ICE about where inmates are located and they cannot contact them. It has been this way for a long time.

I resent that people are saying it's just "desk jockies" who were fired from the Forest Service. No. These were field techs and timber markers and people who served on militia fire crews as a collateral duty. They're also the people that keep IMTs running. Logistics, comms, planning, READs etc.

Realignment of federal environmental policies to recognize fire’s role - Fire Ecology Background Enactment of the Clean Air Act (CAA), Endangered Species Act (ESA), and National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA), three of the primary federal environmental laws, all coincided with the hei...

Great new article describing how federal environmental laws are inhibiting rather than enabling agencies and practitioners from using prescribed and cultural fire to restore forest health and combat the #wildfire crisis.🧪🌏🔥
