When my son was little he used to shove meat turkey poults under broody bantams because it was funny to see them mothering a baby that got way bigger than them. We use whatever wants to be momma.

My favorite are the girls that look fine at night lockdown, but come out in the morning looking like someone plucked them overnight. Then a day later they look like punk rockers with spikes all over. Them some ugly girls then, but within a week or two they are glossy, full feathered and showy.

lol. I have three outside raised beds, a 8x10 greenhouse with 3 raised beds and a 10x12 garden. We have a 4x8 grow tent for hydronics during the off season and a small 10 hole hydroponic system that sits on my kitchen island providing year round lettuce and herbs. I’m bigger, but that’s not farming.

There’s play gardening, and then there’s gardening with purpose. I raise most of what we consume. It’s really not that difficult or time consuming. Don’t knock what you fail to achieve.

I love zucchini. It’s a very versatile vegetable, and when I find the occasional oversized monster I wait until it gets a yellow spot on the bottom. Then the seeds are ripe for roasting and the flesh can be dried, ground and used a a replacement flour. I save way more than a few hundred bucks.

I generally have a few hens that look like that during molt. Most molt slower, but there’s always a few that strip naked and run around streaking. If it’s cold I give them little dresses to wear. My son thinks I should make them little hats too. To sunny and they can get a sunburn. Silly ladies.
