Deadly violence in central Nigeria has led to questions about whether Christians are being targeted or if there is more to the story. But this offers little comfort to the families left torn apart.

The Telegraph just gave a convicted criminal a two-page spread to explain why he's pumping £4 million into Reform UK. They tucked his criminal record away in the small print. So as a former financial crime specialist I’ll do their job for them👇
"Matthew Goodwin has been paid a salary of up to €10,000 a month [from Hungary's state-funded MCC], according to leaked documents obtained by Hungarian investigative journalists Direkt36 and reported by the Good Law Project"
That could all end if Orbán loses...

@jamessloam.bsky.social could you consider the practical side of voting? It would really help if there were clear guidance for schools on this. Eg is it ok for a pshe lesson to be devoted to registering on the electoral roll, in school time? Physically doing it? Getting it done?
As a teacher, many young people are interested in issues/politics. Some obviously aren't. But the biggest barrier, even to the 18 year olds (some year 13s in my school voted in the by -election) was logistics. How to get on the register, how to get to the polling station, how to prove your identity.
@timbale.bsky.social
Can we have polling stations in schools and colleges please? Could have hundreds of voters, including the staff. After all, MK has one in a shopping centre. Is there an imperative to have voting only in your ward?
Is it acceptable for schools to march all their year 12 and 13 classes down to a polling station in school time and say, over to you? Is that ok or not (wouldn't work logistically in some settings, but would raise the profile of voting). After all, the blood transfusion service comes into schools
Plus, ID needs sorting. if the only recognised photo ID is a provisional driver's license (the voting card is another organisational hassle, once you are on the register). Authorities need to think about what it is like to be 16, 17. No transport, no time, no control.
At least, votes at 16 will mean that 16 year olds (fairly stable address-wise, much more so than 21 year olds) have a fighting chance of getting on the electoral roll. Being on the electoral roll at all is key. What they do with their vote is up to them. Can they do worse than existing voters?

Excellent article. Thank you for highlighting this. I will be writing to my MP ask him to pledge his support.
Interesting that BBC's Nick Robinson asked ex NatWest chair Howard Davies 8.21am "the argument that being made by opposition parties 'just drill [fossil fuels] now', would that help?"
Answer: "No. That's political point scoring." The missing info is, who is funding these parties.
