Fellow journos/fans of journalism: favorite journalism movie, go. Mine is probably the insider, but I’m fond of the student journalism subplot in isle of dogs.

Pulpo.

Exactly! That stretch of orchard, which I have dubbed the Baguette Deli-Coalcoaman Corridor, is arguably the most interesting culinary hotspot in Boise.

Just had a delightful pulpo tostada in the shade whilst reading the paper, a small delight.

Alrighty Boise, the little Mexican food complex taking shape at the corner of orchard and bethel is setting itself up to be an essential summer spot. Shaded boxcar seating, real deal mariscos and a VERY strong taco game.

‘Who’s Not Paying?’: Fire Survivors Back California Bill to Hold Big Oil Accountable | KQED Legislation introduced by state Sen. Scott Wiener would allow California’s attorney general to sue fossil fuel companies for climate disaster damages.

New from me:

1/ Wildfires are getting more destructive — and more expensive.

The people paying, through insurance premiums, taxes and out-of-pocket costs, aren’t the ones who caused the problem.

Idaho under emergency drought after 'extraordinary' warm winter Gov. Brad Little signed an emergency drought declaration this week for all of Idaho’s 44 counties after an unusually warm year.

Hydrologist David Hoekema from the Idaho Department of Water Resources said while temperatures have been rising since the 90s, Idaho hasn’t had a winter this warm since 1934.

I’ve been a professional business journalist for over 30 yrs.

Saw the Nasdaq bubble of ~’96-‘99 and the housing/credit bubble of ~’05-‘08 up close.

And the market today seems more disconnected from reality & more unable to incorporate information rationally than ever before.

They counted on a rural dialysis unit to keep them alive. Then it closed A hospital in Nebraska shut down the only dialysis unit for miles, upending lives. That's despite a new federal program that gave the state more than $200 million to improve rural health care access.

Meet some of the people whose lives were upended after their rural dialysis center closed. Some moved to be closer to care. One is living in a rental in another city on weekdays. Another drives 4+ hours roundtrip for care, three times a week.

Big prescribed fire they've been working on for the last few weeks in/near Sheep Creek and below Stein Mountain LO. Last I saw, they were targeting 2,000 acres. which is good cause those drainages have insane fuel loads. #IdahoFire

Hey friends:

After two decades telling stories that matter, I’m ready for what’s next.

Next week, my calendar opens up — and I’m actively looking for full-time or contract work in journalism, editing, comms, or policy analysis.

Let’s be amazing together!

As a professional user of fire science, I share this sentiment. Some of the most eye-opening scholarship I have read over the last several years has been spearheaded by Forest Service scientists.

Latest outlook suggests West could be in for ‘very long and very busy’ fire season The monthly National Interagency Fire Center outlooks are typically staid documents, providing just-the-facts analysis. But the latest is superlative-laden as it describes record-low snowpacks, record-early snow melt and record-high temperatures.

Just to affirm your anxieties. www.boisestatepublicradio.org/environment/...
