Total support for CRT when they make temp repairs that get a lock reopened in a busy place & at busy periods. But the Meccano Mend has made it extra difficult to open *that* problem gate at Autherley Stop Lock. It’s now extra heavy, with metal bits sticking out to gouge the boat. #boaters #ukcanals

#boaters especially solo boaters such as @boatingdavid.bsky.social will be pleased that Stanthorne Lock ladder has been repaired at last. It took 6 weeks & 4 days in the end. Are the CRT getting value for money and good service from their contractors?

Delph has to rank amongst the most beautiful of flights. Not famous like Caen Hill or Foxton or Bingley. No bottle cone to draw the eye. Nothing glam about the name Dudley! Not in Wiki’s list of notable or unique flights. But at the top it feels like the edge of the world. Just gorgeous. #boating

Do any local Shroppie #boaters know how long this paddle has been out of action at Wheaton Aston? 1st photo 29.12.25, 2nd photo 12.4.26. #betterboating? Top gates STILL leak like a sieve.

Bridge 34 (Prestwood Bridge)

Good that the untreated sewage spill has been cleared at Stourton on the Staffs & Worcs. Unfortunately there's now a large tree down at Bridge 34. Hopefully it will be cleared soon canalrivertrust.org.uk/notices/019c... #UKCanals #boaters

Oh, and as an aside, Stanthorne Lock is Number 2, not 3 as on the alert!

That is the problem when contractors have been involved who have little or no knowledge of boating.

Contractors have been hard at it this week clearing a culvert and installing a new pipe that runs under the Shroppie in Gnosall. Several vans & men, lots of equipment. Not sure what made them check it/repair it but as #boaters we're grateful for pro-active work! #UKCanals

NABO says #boaters understand about "Heritage" but this is a lock ladder. A safety feature. We've been informed by a reliable source that lock ladders weren't even at every lock until this century. They are essential for solo boaters amongst others.

CRT say "there is no uniform size & standard & repairs often need bespoke parts & materials so it is difficult for contractors to carry sufficient for all eventualities. "Heritage" assets may also need authorisation from the relevant heritage body before repairs commence."

Lock 3, Stanthorne Lock

Why does the "specialist contractor" not have the materials required to hand? Solo #boaters depend on these ladders & it's important any contractors keep essentials.

The canal system and Campbell Robb have featured on BBC Breakfast this morning. Watch from 2.44:30 #ukcanals #boaters
Quite a good feature, plus the BBC didn’t once refer to a ‘barge’. www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/epis...

This man's unacceptable behaviour appears to be escalating. He needs to be apprehended not only for the safety of the public but also for his own. If you recognise him or have any info pls contact police.

Hirers must need to get rid of rubbish too. Some rubbish disposal points have been removed now (the excuse being not enough room or lack of access for full recycling)

Seems we have to get up-to-date info through social media. Goodness knows how hirers get on with such patchy info.

C&RT should update all downloadable #boaters' guides now that facilities have closed! It's important the info provided is accurate, yet toilets, showers & some refuse points are still listed. Also on maps that accompany the stoppage notices, eg. at Norbury & Nantwich!
